Over 300 people have died following a truck bomb in Somalia’s capital city Mogadishu on Saturday (Oct. 14), the Associated Press reports. Scores had been reported dead as of Saturday, with the toll steadily rising by Monday morning, with more succumbing to injuries. Many of the bodies brought to hospitals have been burned beyond recognition, Reuters reports.

It is the deadliest attack ever in Somalia, which has seen numerous terrorist bomb attacks in recent years.

The explosion, which targeted busy intersections in Mogadishu, is being blamed on militant organization al-Shabaab, though the al-Qaeda linked Islamic militants have yet to take official responsibility.

The group has plagued eastern Africa for a little more than a decade, having been behind numerous attacks in Mogadishu as well as the 2013 Westgate shopping mall attack in Nairobi, Kenya.
