This week, the Business Insider declared the short men’s business suit ”mainstream,” much to the dismay of uptight, frail-calved traditionalists everywhere.

On the first morning of the 2014 World Cup, Quartz takes this opportunity to remind you that prior to the inaugural soccer tournament in 1930, team Argentina (arguably among the top sartorial contenders, with their consistent use of sky blue stripes) posed handsomely in wide-lapeled short suits to great effect.

It’s an admirable look, and would be perfect for 2014 contenders to revisit off-pitch in Brazil this year. Vamos lá!
