Putin dismisses Russian defense minister following a corruption scandal

Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov today, replacing him with a loyal ally following a corruption scandal involving the ministry. Putin was shown on television meeting with Sergei Shoigu, a former emergencies minister and governor of the Moscow region. Media reported that they were discussing his new role as defence chief, in which he will oversee reforms to modernize the armed forces.
