Is it better to self-give than to receive?

A record number of holiday shoppers in the US will be treating themselves this year, according to the National Retail Association. About 59% of holiday shoppers will be “self-gifters,” and they plan to spend an average of $139.92 on themselves.  Over 70% of 18- to 24-year-olds will be self-spenders.
