Netflix’s zeitgeisty holiday ad will make you awwww, then lol

It’s that time of year, when companies unveil their holiday marketing campaigns, and Netflix has an early contender for the season’s best ad.

The commercial seems to spoof a scene toward the end of the nouveau-classic holiday rom-com Love Actually—which, yes, you can watch on Netflix. Of course, airports are a common location for these kinds of scenes (think Garden StateCasablancaetc.). In any event, the characters in Netflix’s ad have slightly less romantic intentions.

Netflix has been pushing its marketing campaign, “The entertainment of today,” in an effort to solidify its already wide lead among streaming video services. The last quarter of the year is traditionally a strong one for Netflix, as people buy tablets, television sets, and other screens for the holidays, and then sign up for new subscriptions.
