David Nelson drops packages for a living. Being a package design engineer is actually much more complicated than that. But dropping things is certainly part of the job.

He’s been working at FedEx’s package testing laboratory in Memphis, TN for the last 22 years. He designs custom boxes for clients, mostly businesses, who want to find the most affordable and safe way to ship their products. He’s made boxes for maple syrup and car bumpers, and like everything he designs, put them through a rigorous testing process which involves shaking, dropping, and squishing them.
