Davos, Switzerland

Financier and philanthropist George Soros told a dinner at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland tonight (Jan. 21) that the Republican presidential nominees are playing into the hands of the Islamic State by demonizing Muslims.

“By fear-mongering, Donald Trump and the others, Cruz and so on, are doing the work of ISIS,” Soros said. “They [the Islamic State] want people to turn against Muslims, treat them with suspicion and convince the Muslim community there is no alternative to terrorism. It turns the young Muslims into a breeding ground for terrorists.”

Soros, a prolific donor to Democratic candidates and to his Open Society Foundation, which funds democracy-building projects, predicted a close outcome in the November US election.

“It’s going to lead to a landslide for Hillary Clinton in the popular vote,” he said. “The electoral thing will be closer.”
