ALL IN THE OPTICS

Everything you need to know about last night’s presidential debate, in one photo

By Johnny Simon

If you missed the Sept. 26 presidential debate, this image pretty much sums it up.

Here, Hillary is pictured grinning on the debate stage, almost as if she knows that multiple pundits, focus groups, and even the Mexican peso will soon call the event in her favor. The Democratic nominee has since been praised for her ability to smile through attacks on her record, and for her perfectly-timed retorts.

With his finger raised, Republican candidate Donald Trump meanwhile was extremely insistent on being heard out, and frequently lost in his own hyperbole and even lies. Just moments after the photo above was taken, his suggestion that Clinton didn’t have the “stamina” to lead a country was brusquely shut down.

Noticeably missing from the photo’s frame is the moderator, NBC’s Lester Holt, who some criticized for seeming absent during moments when candidates veered off topic.

And if the scene recalls some prime time TV you’ve already seen—well, maybe you have.
