Though tickets to Hamilton may remain nearly impossible to snag, some major artists are bringing a new version of the hit musical to your personal speakers.
Hamilton creator-writer-actor-genius Lin-Manuel Miranda originally conceived his project—now overrun with nominations, praise, and awards—in 2009 as “The Hamilton Mixtape,” and later shortened the name on the advice of his producer. But about a year ago, after the show’s official cast recording was released, Miranda said he wanted to revive the idea of a mixtape, incorporating remixes, covers, and songs inspired by the musical. That effort’s results will be available for pre-order Nov. 4 (with an official release on Dec. 2, according to Amazon UK). The project’s tracklist boasts big names like Sia, Questlove, Alicia Keys, Regina Spektor, and Jimmy Fallon.
What is the mix, exactly? According to one of the collaborators, it’s “sort of a love letter”—from Miranda to the artists and emcees who inspired his Broadway production, and from contemporary musicians who were “massively affected” by the Hamilton experience.
