On a per-share basis, the Carlsbad, California-based company said it had a loss of 37 cents.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 28 cents per share.
The medical equipment and supplies holding company posted revenue of $138 million in the period.
For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $186.6 million, or $1.54 per share. Revenue was reported as $482.3 million.
Alphatec expects full-year revenue of $595 million.
Alphatec shares have increased 1.5% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $15.34, a climb of slightly more than 3% in the last 12 months.
