Wow another reason to be glad I’m happily married! I don’t think I peaked over 2 decades ago, but the evidence suggests the rest of the world might.

This study sounds like complete rubbish —a central reason why is this passage, “Your specific desirability rank would have been generated by two figures: whether other desirable people contacted you, and whether other desirable people responded when you contacted them. If you contacted a much less desirable person, their desirability score would rise; if they contacted you and you replied, then your score would fall”

It still doesn’t explain how the formula designates certain people desirable vs

Will be interesting to see how FB does with online dating

Women's desirability supposedly decreases after age 18. Yet, the most desirable person in this study was a 30yo woman.

Does anyone else feel like this article is nothing more than 15 minutes of semi-smart sounding word salad?

Tag this one #NSS. (No s***, Sherlock). I mean, c’mon, this is news? Online dating allows users to hit up someone they’d never be able to approach in person, and see if they still find commonality. So of course people date aspirationally.

Really interesting data here. And despite our data driven world, online dating is still a disaster for most people.

I think this should be re-titled. At what age are men and women most likely to get frequently contacted on social media sites. That is one kind of desirability. There may well be others.

And this is why I can't get a date to save the world...or laid to save the universe.

interesting how desirability is linked so much to inherent biases, and underscores how much work there is to do to change perceptions

It’s surprising to know that highly educated women are also evaded in general in USA just like in Japan...

Maybe this has something to do with the particular characteristics of the dating app users?? Say, men who are using the app in search for some exiting one night stand experiences tend to prefer uneducated young girls?

I think for a highly educated man looking for a serious long-term relationship, a matured and sophisticated lady is definitely the better choice...

How do the researchers get to know "they are trying to contact with people exactly 25 percent more desirable than they are".?

The theme is very intrigued but no solid evidence has been presented at all.

  • This is fascinating. Explains a lot about humanity and desire.

When I saw the headline here, I thought this article would irritate me; I wasn’t wrong but the article was far more in depth than I expected it to be. The methodology was clearly outlined. I am curious as so why these conclusions are being published without trying the same methodology with a different site. I’d be interested to see if and how things change if this study was to be conducted again.

Men are attracted to health. Women are attracted to strength. There are differing types of both health and strength.

Why health? In a word, Fertility. What kind of mother will she be? A woman with a bachelors degree is smart but not as career focused. Health is physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, familial, relational, and social.

Why strength? Nesting requires security. Strength can also be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, familial, relational, and social.

    Your desirability is dependent

Your desirability is dependent upon how many of those types of either health or security you are perceived as possessing.

The young woman with the highest rating will likely reflect far more of these healthy attributes than just a beautiful face and body.

One thing I believe is, our prerequisite for dating people shouldn't be whether someone is in our league or not. If you find someone interesting you talk to and there's something different about yourself with the person, taking your chances at letting the person know how you feel isn't such a bad idea. Most people lost their one true love on the basis of leagues. I really wish someone understands love and relationships go way beyond leagues.
