  • By this list, a meaningful job is in education or health care (or firefighting) — all admirable, giving pursuits. We can be empathetic, giving, and find meaning in so many arenas. Finding YOUR mission is where meaningfulness and professional activity ultimately coincide.

  • 'Meaning' is the most important factor in terms of long-term motivation. The profession of a teacher is the most meaningful job, but at the same time, sad to say, it is a profession that receives a great deal of stress. #academia #teachers

  • On target but sad police officers and staff are not mentioned. Who do you call when in trouble, even before an ambulance gets there and who puts their lives on the line every day!

  • I agree. Even though some of them aren’t very well compensated. They provide valuable services to the community.

  • Speaks volumes, if the list is accurate, that police officers didn't make the top 20.

  • I am glad to know that people that help others generally have high job satisfaction. I am an English as a Foreign Language teacher and I have very high job satisfaction as well. I do wish that the salaries for teachers were as high as some of the other jobs but I can’t get everything I want haha

  • I usually don't even read lists like this because I generally find them shallow and shortchanging. In this case I wonder if there is even a statistical correlation between meaningful jobs and salary (don't forget benefits). I think the jobs and professions that have meaningful impacts in local, regional

I usually don't even read lists like this because I generally find them shallow and shortchanging.  In this case I wonder if there is even a statistical correlation between meaningful jobs and salary (don't forget benefits). I think the jobs and professions that have meaningful impacts in local, regional, and global terms (meaning your place of employment, local community, and larger scales) are endless and shouldn't even be ranked since meaningfulness and impact is a sliding scale. I always felt that as a metallurgical engineer I had an impact at my place of employment and so on up the scale. I still enjoy seeing Caterpillar, Toro, Cummins, John Deere, General Motors locomotives, etc. knowing that I played a role of some kind in the design, materials selection, or supplier quality. I ALWAYS felt my job was meaningful, useful, and important to me, my employer, my customers, and meaningful to the many impacted by the equipment and equipment benefits. I hope no one makes a career decision based on a list like this.

  • One possible takeaway: if you want a job that you feel will make the world a better place, be prepared to accept a low salary.

  • Sad to see that lawmakers did not make the list. I guess it’s not so suprising that people don’t go into politics anymore because they think they can make the world a better place.

  • The fact that this list doesn't have DJ as #1 makes it irrelevant to me kthxbaiiiii

  • Meaningful since the Practioner in each of the 20 jobs perform valuable and beneficial roles. Great stuff

  • What if the headline were, “Top 20 meaningless jobs in America ranked”. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Fix This Headline:

List of the 20 Professionals Who Think Their Jobs are the Most Meaningful.

  • Is it real? In Japan many children hope want to be a youtuber.I don’t regard youtuber as making society good.

  • Whatever the profession or skill, do the best that you can. Go home at the end of the day with a smile on your face!

  • Left me wondering what the relationship was between “ a meaningful job” and pay.

  • Not surprised to see counselors, therapists and psychologists, even with the overlap. There isn’t much that gives your own life more meaning than to be a part of someone else’s growth. It also gives a person a lot of perspective about happiness, relationships, parenting and success. Realistic expectations

Not surprised to see counselors, therapists and psychologists, even with the overlap. There isn’t much that gives your own life more meaning than to be a part of someone else’s growth. It also gives a person a lot of perspective about happiness, relationships, parenting and success. Realistic expectations and a feeling of connection to others pain and joy is a pretty good recipe. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with so many brave and wonderful people over time. Most work is meaningful and while this was an interesting article ranking may be less important than an survey that asked people what aspect of their work was meaningful to them.

  • Who voted on the most meaningful jobs? I know several jobs that I consider a lot more meaningful.

  • No doubt, America is one place job opportunities are available. There are different jobs you'll find that most countries in the world don't really specialize in. Taking a good look at the all, one thing I found out about them is that; each of them require a good communication skill and experience. You

No doubt, America is one place job opportunities are available. There are different jobs you'll find that most countries in the world don't really specialize in. Taking a good look at the all, one thing I found out about them is that; each of them require a good communication skill and experience. You should be able to relate well with people so your services will be valuable and you earn more than you worked for.

  • Clergy should not be on the list, unless they report what percentage of clergy are actually sexually abusing children

  • Engineers get no love at ALL. We build roads, bridges, houses, high rises, airports, subway systems....and iPhones too...

  • Clergy? Really?
