Good morning.

The world in 50 years

Will our world be more equal or less equal? Hung Huang, the Chinese TV host and producer, predicts: “It will be worse before it gets better."

The World in 50 Years: Will our world be more equal or less equal?

Perhaps I missed it, but how do you define equal? Without knowing that, how meaningfully can anyone answer the question?

It may well get worse first; in some ways, we’re living through that now (e.g. global wealth, by many measures, is increasingly being consolidated by the 1%).

It’s worth noting, though, that our standards for equality will probably be different in 50 years. Just as many forms of today’s equality did

It may well get worse first; in some ways, we’re living through that now (e.g. global wealth, by many measures, is increasingly being consolidated by the 1%).

It’s worth noting, though, that our standards for equality will probably be different in 50 years. Just as many forms of today’s equality did not exist in popular culture in 1969, we will likely have a greater range of expression when we speak of equality in 2069. However, implementation of these ideas will not be so quick; even if the world becomes more equal by today’s standards, it may well look less equal to the standards of 2069.

How we move

A country’s commuting behavior impacts its media. A reliance on public transit in India has provided an opportunity for short video apps like TikTok and Firework. In comparison, podcasts have gobbled up the media landscape in the car-dependent US.

Long commutes make India perfect for short video apps like TikTok

Q: Why are podcasts so popular in the US?

A: The way we commute affects what media we consume.

Cars = podcasts; Bus/train = video

Here's a closer look at the scene in India.

Even when Indians use cars, many middle class and rich ones have drivers, so they end up watching videos. Podcasts have become popular only among elite, urban folks.

I've been writing more letters lately and have gotten such appreciative replies from the recipients. And while isn't the point, I've found it to be such a satisfying way to reflect on my own feelings for someone special, and communicate them in an unhurried way (that can in turn be consumed on someone's own terms). These are going to look really nice with some Ellsworth Kelly stamps.

He may not be Mister Rogers, but he’s not far off. The New York Times admits that telling saintly stories about legitimately saintly celebrities doesn’t make for the most exciting stories, but in this case, it’s the only available option.

"It was then that he [Tom Junod] met Mister Rogers, who prayed for him and his family every day, and who kept a file on Junod, which the screenwriters, Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, found in Rogers’ archives in Pittsburgh. In that file, he laid out four pillars of journalism that he hoped Junod would stick to: 1. Journalists are human beings not stenographers, human beings not automatons. 2. Point out injustice when you have to. 3. Point out beauty when you can. 4. Be aware of celebrating the wonders of creation."

  • Yet another iteration of Trump’s intention to obstruct anything even indirectly critical of him. The velocity is escalating in a way that should make us concerned on so many levels.

  • Not a Trump thing; tired of knee-jerk comments like this. Sigh. So many instances of non-liberal voices being squashed or limited; including Prager University which does excellent job of providing well-researched instruction on topics of the day and timeless controversies/philosophies.

  • And so it starts... This will end very badly. Facebook has already been under fire but Google has, luckily for them, remained on the sidelines. Until now. I wouldn't be surprised if Pichai becomes the scapegoat and is forced to resign.

  • This is concerning. It could ultimately redefine what “conservative” is and set new lines in terms of what is considered racist/ offensive and what a hard leaning political view is.

I’m not sure this LA native is prepared for the new normal should things progress the way Trump wants it to.

“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices,” Trump said on Twitter in August. “Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen. They are closing down the opinions of many people on the RIGHT, while at the same time doing nothing to others.”

Nothing, Mr. President, could be farther from the truth, with exception of what ever the next words out of your mouth or that you might vainly tweet, be it in the next few minutes, early tomorrow morning, or any time while Congress Ballesly allows you to stay in office!

  • We cannot be or act ignorant of others devices to use social media for propaganda and brain washing of the masses. Everyone’s opinions count equally in a free society and thus should be alllowed to access the masses no matter what our personal convictions may be. Zero tolerance for censorship.

  • The people commenting here had zero issues with Obama using the IRS to silence conservative voices, or Obama politicizing the FBI and DOJ to go after political opinions that didn’t toe the liberal line, but allowing conservatives to have an equal voice on social media is “fascism” to them.

    Talk about irrational liberalism!

All worked for our great country to be the best she can be. There are many on the left that hate our country, think that if your a white conservative you must be a racist , a bigot, hate gay men and fear transgender women. None of this is true. The lefties are being used by a dangerous cult of people that do not care about anyone but themselves. They insight you into a frenzy to keep the country in one turmoil after the other while they go about taking advantage of every situation.

President Trump was elected because we are sick and tired of the elite ruling party . The Bushes, the Clintons the Obamas and many others. Why is it that these people including congress leave office much richer than when they went in?

The US should not aid communism by bending our morals by helping them control their people in return for a shot to do business with their citizens under the rules of communism. We need to do everything we can to make the same internet content available to everyone. Television and Hollywood did more to create a demand for democracy than centuries of fighting wars. Ultimately, if the citizens know it’s a possibility for them to enjoy the same freedom we have and when they understand what their lives could and should be like in a free country, it will cause the public to shift toward democracy.
