From prior experience, staff working at these types of hotels were difficult to get ahold of and seemed to feel you were bothering them everytime you need something, even at check in. Alexa is not a good replacement for a great concierge, but it is a good replacement for an unhelpful clerk with a bad attitude.

I don't think the hotel staff are going to win on this one. Apparently, at-home Alexa users are simply being provided a convenience of what they are comfortable using in their own homes. Based on this article, it looks like Alexa for Hospitality Services devices provides much much more than what any staff can provide anyway, and more conveniently, too. • Alexa may very well be able to tell you the operating hours of the hotel swimming pool.

However, it will not be able to grant you private access to that pool, during after hours, to go skinny dipping under the moonlight, the makings for a magical evening with your significant other.

    Long live the Concierge!

I think the concierge community underestimate how important their ‘human touch’ is to people who need to get things done and don’t want to mess with technology. The day Alexa truly competes with this level of service, will be the day society will need to restructure because there won’t be a need for a significant percentage of the population to work and produce in the traditional way we do now.
