Adam Moss has been (and continues to be) the best editor in the business. I have marveled at his deft feel for what’s relevant, his amazing eye for talent, and his relentless focus on excellence and quality journalism at every step of the way. New York has been the standard-bearer for years, one that the rest of us in media have aspired to be measured against.

The humanity of his goodbye-note to the staff (which you can read here), as well as that of CEO Pam Wasserstein (also here) shows what else has been special about his tenure and that operation. It is a lesson for respectful, honorable engagement, even in an era of intense business pressure. Leadership is demonstrated in difficult moments and at critical inflection points. From Adam and from Pam, this is leadership too that we can aspire to.

  • It’s truly amazing to contemplate what Adam Moss built in his time at NY magazine. His work is a big part of what inspired me and many others to become a journalists. His farewell letter is lovely, worth a read. I’m very interested to see what he does next.

  • I'm always so impressed by New York Magazine. They've managed to create such a strong stable of media brands with their own distinct identities.

Hard to think of a magazine leader who was more effective in the shift from print to digital.
