  • I used to have the time to see all the nominees but that's just not been the case of late. But maybe this year. For sure makes for more fun oscar viewing night

  • This is a really odd list. On the one hand, really happy to see Spike Lee FINALLY get a Best Director nomination, as well as the great Terence Blanchard for Best Original Score (another long, long overdue honor). A Best Picture nod for “Black Panther” is excellent. And Glenn Close will likely win Beat

This is a really odd list. On the one hand, really happy to see Spike Lee FINALLY get a Best Director nomination, as well as the great Terence Blanchard for Best Original Score (another long, long overdue honor). A Best Picture nod for “Black Panther” is excellent. And Glenn Close will likely win Beat Actress, but Yalitza Aparicio is great and her nomination is a huge deal for taking Indigenous actors seriously. (Would be amazing if she won.)

On the other hand, no Ethan Hawke Beat Actor for “First Reformed”? Where is “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” on the Best Documentary list? No Editing nomination for “Roma”? And what is it about “Green Book” that the Hollywood loves so much?

Anyway, just goes to prove that even when we (ok, I) say I’m done with the Oscars it serves up enough fodder to argue over and debate and get passionate about.

  • It looks like the Academy came to the only logical conclusion - Roma is indeed a film. Now Netflix needs to get their act together and do some real theatrical releases!

  • How “Black Panther” only receive six Oscar nominations, and none for best actor/actress or supporting?

  • My pictures for winning in any category:

    Black Panther

    Bohemian Rapsody

    BlackKlansman

    The Favorite
