  • This is a huge development. I agree that this needed to be done and am glad our Administration (as much as I detest Trump) is on the ball here.

“[5G] will be almost more important than electricity...Everything will be connected, and the central nervous system of these smart cities will be your 5G network.” And that is precisely why we cannot allow China, which is effectively dominating its tech sector and using it for espionage, etc., to win in this race.

  • This just illustrates how out of touch the current administration is. We are arguing about walls, when the true key to power and security comes from technology. America should be embracing tech, not walling ourselves off physically and diplomatically from an increasingly smarter and more connected world.

  • “In other words, the Americans were trying to do to Huawei the exact thing they are now worried Huawei will do to the United States.” Geopolitics is not without a sense of irony.

For those unclear about what all the Huawei fuss is all about, this article is a great place to start.

  • Bruh, we spy all the time, on our own damn people too. Who gives a shit if China has data on what products we like etc. Privacy is wrong, we must push for transparency of government and we can lead the world in this by example. Until the U.S. govt. doesn’t have atrocities to hide, they won’t feel okay with open information and sharing of intel with world governments. They’re scared of Chinese espionage because it could expose the true dark dealings of our hyper-corrupt pseudo-shadow government.

  • This may slow China down, but if the US wants to win the tech race long term it needs to focus on upping its own game rather than trying to take out the competition. Investment, education, and better regulation should be the focus.

  • They will not only spy on you, they possibly could shutdown networks... China is not our friend.,

  • Just as our administration is struggling to raise fund to erect a Medieval wall, China is marching into 5G development without obstacles! We brag about MAGA while China is rapidly developing Africa, Near East’s, Indo Asia’s economy and infrastructure. We’ll look back in a few years & will gasp at our loss.

  • Misleading. Many of America’s allies are ahead of the curve on Huawei, and China in general, using sold technology as a Trojan horse. Canada was aware of this and the Czech National Cyber Institute issued a warning quite a while ago. What this does do, however, is help flush China’s apologists and sympathizers out of the bushes. It also reminds us that behind this ‘economic miracle’ is a brutal one party totalitarian state. In addition to ‘whatabout’ this away with ‘well we do it too’ is to morally

It also reminds us that behind this ‘economic miracle’ is a brutal one party totalitarian state. In addition to ‘whatabout’ this away with ‘well we do it too’ is to morally equate liberal secular democracies with totalitarian regimes.

  • "U.S. officials say the old process of looking for 'back doors' in equipment and software made by Chinese companies is the wrong approach, as is searching for ties between specific executives and the Chinese government. The bigger issue, they argue, is the increasingly authoritarian nature of the Chinese government, the fading line between independent business and the state and new laws that will give Beijing the power to look into, or maybe even take over, networks that companies like Huawei have helped build and maintain."

  • As a Chinese, development is absolutely important. We hug the technology ,we enjoy the digital future with no doubt.
