Always amazing to see how something like text communication and file sharing can be revolutionized again and again. Battles may be won and lost but the wars never end.
You got to hand it to Slack, they really followed a winning formula and turned institutional sales on its head. They essentially changed the model from selling top down into organizations into bottom up. It’s quite brilliant. It’s also been a successful model by other companies taking the same approach

Not surprising they are taking this confidential approach and it’s all a function of access to information. The internet is a disrupting force because of networks effects, yes, but more so by eliminating the need for middle parties and allowing any entity - whether it’s brands, content networks, or in this case investments - to go direct.
As a start-up founder I can’t imagine a world going back to email. I probably use the phrase “slack me” or “just slack it to me” several times a day now to my team.
I'm still chuckling about announcing that you're doing something confidentially via press release....but i guess that's the JOBS Act for ya?
still pretty exciting....especially if they go the direct listing route...but still a non-zero chance they get snatched up by Microsoft or Salesfoce between now and then...
