  • Perspective from Gates Foundation's very own Orin Levine on what we really need to show that vaccines work!

“Now, more than ever, people need to share their stories about why they vaccinate their children and get vaccinated themselves AND listen to the concerns of those who don't.”

  • This is the ultimate misinformation problem, made far worse by supposedly authoritative sources on social media. Given their critical importance to our communities, I’m for mandating vaccines with real penalties for failing to do so. Get your kids vaccinated!

  • This morning on CBS I heard from a teen that turned 18 and proceeded to go against his mother beliefs and got vaccinated. She was supportive regardless of the fact that it went against her beliefs. Social media has fueled her conspiracy theories (admitted) but she was proud of her son for moving forward

She was supportive regardless of the fact that it went against her beliefs. Social media has fueled her conspiracy theories (admitted) but she was proud of her son for moving forward with what he believed in. We can only hope that the younger generation will look towards science for answers. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/ohio-teen-ethan-lindenberger-defies-mother-and-gets-vaccinated/

  • Probably the best argument for good, tightly controlled immigration policy.

  • Such an important article! In so many contexts it’s difficult for humans to conceptualize how individual behavior and choices can combine to create “systems behavior”. Or how scale truly works (if you do X things may be ok, if a million people do X, then things collapse. So don’t do X). I have a friend

Or how scale truly works (if you do X things may be ok, if a million people do X, then things collapse. So don’t do X). I have a friend who has made all the anti-vax arguments to me. But the thing I continue to come back with is this exact point about herd immunity. None of us is an island unto ourselves. We should all, imho, think about of impact on our communities. And if the ask, at least in this country, is that you just get a few shots every few months for the first year or so of your life ... that’s not a big ask. And the payoff is literally saving lives.

  • Despite the extremists in the northeastern states who circulate myths and hamper polio eradication efforts, this brave mother recognised the necessity of vaccination and made it a priority.

Many anti-vaxxers use the rare cases of side effects post-immunisation as their "evidence" that vaccines are harmful

Many anti-vaxxers use the rare cases of side effects post-immunisation as their "evidence" that vaccines are harmful; such naïvety diminishes herd immunity risking the lives of not only their own children, but the elderly, pregnant women and those who are physically unable to be vaccinated. Anti-vaxxers need to fear the diseases, not the vaccines.

  • I's time to start issuing pediatric vaccination tags or bracelets akin to the ones dogs get after being vaccinated for rabies. Then public & private facilities can start barring kids w/o them.

Maybe if we start treating these anti-vaxxers and their kids like the walking plague carriers they are, they'll

Maybe if we start treating these anti-vaxxers and their kids like the walking plague carriers they are, they'll either all get vaccinated or move to isolated communes.
