It’s no surprise that the “grownups in the room” we’ve been waiting for are children. They understand that their future is being stolen from them. I’ve been following Jamie Margolin’s lead (of This Is Zero Hour) for months now. We all should. Climate change is literally a crisis, not some trumped up excuse to spread xenophobia, and reversing climate change gives us the opportunity to improve everyone’s lives. Teenage girls FTW!

  • Teenage girls stand up and make sure their voices are heard in the climate change debate. Brilliant to see the growing political power of young women.

  • This confirms what we long ago learned from the Global Risks report, that women on average see such climate concerns as much more likely and impactful for our collective future. And perhaps this is why they are also more prepared to do something about it now.

  • When girls are brave, they make a big, positive impact. It’s time for a bravery revolution!

In 2018, six teenagers ran for governor in Kansas. In our Harris Poll survey with The Amercian Psychological Association, 60% of Gen Zs say they have taken some sort of action in the last year, such as signing a petition or speaking with a friend or family member to persuade them about their political or social views.

But we found young women especially stressed out about issues like climate change, school shootings, immigration reform and gender inequality at higher levels than boys and at far higher levels than Millennials or any other U.S. generation.

  • Was just mentioning this article at breakfast with my 11 year old daughter and she knew the Swedish girl who started it by name. So I think it’s already here. Welcome! We need the leadership.

  • My generation owes it to this one to get serious about solving this.

  • Dont underestimate the power of the next generation... particularly the girls. They are determined and not afraid of speaking out and acting accordingly.

  • This is how democracy works. I stand with with teenagers.

Climate change is an existential threat. It should not be a partisan issue. To make it so, does a disservice to humanity. To make it so in service of the petrochemical and coal industries is irrational.

  • So now we are going to follow around some teenage girls for the answers to something as complex as global climate change and the alleged connection to man-made pollution? We have completely lost our collective minds!

  • May I also add over 30 thousand scientist have proven that climate change is a natural occurrence and has nothing to do with man.

  • You are never too young to stand up for what’s right. You are never two weak to show your strength by doing things you believe in.

  • Great to see young people, in this case women, standing up and making their voices heard on issues that matter.

  • Brilliant! Love that Gen Z girls are making their voices heard in important topics that matter most to them.

  • There are many examples of what would NOT exist without climate change. A few are the Great Plains (agriculture center of the whole world), Yosemite Valley, the science of Archeology (were the dinosaurs responsible for climate change in their day?), the Great Lakes and many others.

There are many examples of what would NOT exist without climate change. A few are the Great Plains (agriculture center of the whole world), Yosemite Valley, the science of Archeology (were the dinosaurs responsible for climate change in their day?), the Great Lakes and many others.

These examples shine the light of truth on all this hysteria, climate change is natural and humans are powerless to change it.

I know what these protesting troopers will say, "Dinosaur flatulence warmed the climate and grains from wheat products contain gluten - can't eat that."

  • As a grown man, it may be wise not to publicly say, "Teenage girls FTW!"

All I can do is laugh when I hear that climate change is an immediate crisis. And I laugh even harder when they say that it can actually be avoided or controlled by human interference.

The obsession with climate change in all

All I can do is laugh when I hear that climate change is an immediate crisis. And I laugh even harder when they say that it can actually be avoided or controlled by human interference.

The obsession with climate change in all seriousness is mostly a reaction to the boredom of modern life. Especially in the U.S., there is little luxery that isn't available at your local supermarket or Walmart.

As life becomes more affordable and more convenient, people will only invent more outrageous things to be upset about. Climate change, transgenderism, the wage gap, and subconscious racism are just a few examples.

  • This is a "non story"/"fake news" in my opinion. Much ado about nothing. I fail to see "young girls" as a moving political force around the world. This is propaganda and will never materialize as a game changer. BTW, it a pity that we have scared our children to death that their world will end do to

This is a "non story"/"fake news" in my opinion. Much ado about nothing. I fail to see "young girls" as a moving political force around the world. This is propaganda and will never materialize as a game changer. BTW, it a pity that we have scared our children to death that their world will end do to man causing climate change. It's a cruel hoax intended to control people's actions (for ulterior motives) and it's shameful that adults that should know better (through critical thinking skills) are contributing to this mania.

  • Climate change is a genuine issue, and I'm certainly not advocating for apathy amongst young people. However, the whole thing does seem suspiciously well packaged, and the article reads as though carefully tailored to include every intersectionalist talking point.

  • Solidarity with the children skipping school to protest against inaction on climate change. Children don't have access to democratic exercises that adults take for granted but when they take to the streets, their voices can sway things.

This is just the beginning of climate change action becoming a major political battle ground.

  • Remarkable youth organizing around the world. Let’s hope it also results in higher participation in voting by younger citizens.

  • Everyone knows little girls know what’s best for everyone. Particularly in parroting what they are spoon fed by their progressive educational system and the leftist media.

  • Great stuff!!! Keep the movement growing.

  • Love it! Hope our young American females continue the wave.

  • European teenagers get it and it makes perfect sense that it's the girls leading the way, like so many Class Presidents in US high schools and student government leaders. Instead of organizing Proms and parties, they are leading the fight to save the World. Think of what that means - kids have to fight

European teenagers get it and it makes perfect sense that it's the girls leading the way, like so many Class Presidents in US high schools and student government leaders. Instead of organizing Proms and parties, they are leading the fight to save the World. Think of what that means - kids have to fight to save the World. It's completely nonsensical, but it's their reality. Greta is on track to be UN Secretary General before she's 30. People need to wake up and listen. Listen to "Our house is on fire" and her TED Talk. And check the info on the Sixth Mass Extinction if you don't believe climate change and the impact of humans on the natural world is anything short of existential.

  • I am very sceptical whenever there is a youth movement being pointed as showing the way. Teens are way too frequently used to advance some polical agendas.

  • And what do teenage girls, or boys, know about climate change or anything else of any importance???

  • There is so much truth in this article. The world today is governed by entitled middle-aged people who aren’t willing to give up “the old way”. Money and privilege are more important than the air we breathe and the purity of our planet. Congratulations to all the younger generation (girls and boys) who

There is so much truth in this article. The world today is governed by entitled middle-aged people who aren’t willing to give up “the old way”. Money and privilege are more important than the air we breathe and the purity of our planet. Congratulations to all the younger generation (girls and boys) who will have the courage to stand up for a “new way” where respect is at the core of how we govern and the politico-economic decisions that are made rather than how much money and power can be generated.

  • Brava! The adults on this issue are children. It's not about partisan politics. We all breath the same air, drink the dame water.

  • Men have had a couple hundred years to get it right, and failed! Step up to the plate young ladies, we got your backs! ❣️❣️❣️

  • Wow!! Maybe girls are our future? Feb 16/9

  • This is nonsense. They are at university, they should be learning more about how to actually fix the problem - not just moaning and skipping school. Lazy thinking nonsense.

  • Love their zest! It will take 7 billion more people to climb on board. I'm down for living in a pre-industrialized global environment.

  • Having been let down by their parents (us) and their grand parents (the current ruling generation), these teens are our World's only hope. Their voice needs to spread to the great polluters, China, The US, The EU (28), Russia, Japan, Germany, India. - And the per capitalist great polluters, The UAE

Having been let down by their parents (us) and their grand parents (the current ruling generation), these teens are our World's only hope. Their voice needs to spread to the great polluters, China, The US, The EU (28), Russia, Japan, Germany, India. - And the per capitalist great polluters, The UAE, Australia, Canada, and again, The US. Frankly we need to let these young women take the reins, and step out of the way. Our generation and the Boomers let the World down on this issue. These women are the mothers of the generation that could be born into a toxic world.

  • Hasn’t the global temp been increasing since the ice age. About 1 degree every 100 years?

  • Looking at pictures of these rallies outside of this article showed many males in the pictures.

  • This will have zero impact.....governments don't run countries, mega businesses do. THOSE are the people these amazing students should be targeting. If you are not aware of mega businesses 'guidance' of governments' policies, let me know. Am happy to share.

  • My husband's 15-year old cousin participated in this in London last week, which really surprised, and perhaps delighted, the family. It's always exciting to see younger generations increasingly standup for important causes, particularly young girls. I hope this trend continues on other causes as well.

  • I love this.

  • A rising power

  • It is important for girls to take charge of this movement. As women we should follow their lead and join them. It is our planet as well and it is time for change.

  • Given the adults prefer to cry oh it's so complex let's accept what the fossil fuel industry says how could teenagers be more foolish than that?

  • Lol... Another huge group of oppressed people who’ve never worked a real job or paid a dime in taxes in their entire lives are going to change the world. What moron believes any of this nonsense?

  • Very impressed by this young generation! Hopefully just in the nick of time!

  • What is it about youth and climate? The need for somewhere to express ourselves, to protect innocence, detachment from petty worldly busywork... I am still out here fighting the good fight, and I'm glad to see another generation taking action. May you find allies and solutions and avoid pitfalls and debudding compromises.

  • The “lazy” ones are our leaders that are ignoring a threat that their children will ultimately have to contend with.

What seems well packaged around here are the climate deniers and their fantasy talking points

  • Every day I’m inspired by the boldness of young women. It makes me feel hopeful for our future

  • Very important to protect our environment.

  • There is an Indigenous Climate Activist, Xiuhtezctl, who has spoken for quite some time to "those in charge" regarding this growing crisis.

And it continuously is largely ignored and here in the US, by greed, denied.

There is an Indigenous Climate Activist, Xiuhtezctl, who has spoken for quite some time to "those in charge" regarding this growing crisis.

And it continuously is largely ignored and here in the US, by greed, denied.

It amazes me, although it should not, that the critical commentary is from mostly males from my generation.

Your denying this problem does not make it go away. Your listening to the producers of fossil fuels does not make it go away. Your saying, you drive a car or you flew in a plane, you are guilty too, does not stop this mess. We, working together to change our focal point and putting in the hard work to address these issues will begin to change.

Or you can do absolutely nothing and leave the water, land and air completely depleted.

  • These protestors will see 2050. They will see 2100, many of them. They need to decide whether to risk having children or not. Best option there is to wait and see, and perhaps have one child. Their children will face the same choice.
