  • Interesting read. Natalie Wynn's YT mashup of philosophy edu from grad school + makeup edu from YT videos does succeed at changing young white nationalists minds. It's fair to say she isn't mainstream, and that's how she wins. First, she engages in discussion w/ radicalized young white men (we need more

Interesting read. Natalie Wynn's YT mashup of philosophy edu from grad school + makeup edu from YT videos does succeed at changing young white nationalists minds. It's fair to say she isn't mainstream, and that's how she wins. First, she engages in discussion w/ radicalized young white men (we need more of that) and second, she understands that sexism and racism are countercultural urges (vs feminism and interracial harmony are mainstream). Bravo 👏👏👏

"One thing the right wing has done pretty effectively in the last few years is, they've managed to frame the discussion as a kind of puritan, moralistic, sermonizing left versus a kind of edgy, rebellious, punk-rock right," says 30-year-old Wynn. "And I refuse to allow them to get away with that."

  • I'm often confused by all the different descriptions of what it means to be Right on the political spectrum. Unfortunately, we're way past the point of classifying every element of society as either Right or Left.

To clarify, there are only two distinctive groups on the Right; Republicans and Conservatives

I'm often confused by all the different descriptions of what it means to be Right on the political spectrum. Unfortunately, we're way past the point of classifying every element of society as either Right or Left.

To clarify, there are only two distinctive groups on the Right; Republicans and Conservatives. Being a Republican does not necessarily mean you are also a hard line Conservative, and vis versa.

Republicanism is a political ideology that shares values with Conservatism, but it relys on government power to exist and is susceptible to corruption. Conservatism, however, is a set of beliefs that are concerned with downsizing government and preserving individual liberty.

White supremacy has no place near Republicanism or Conservatism. Just like Anti-semitism is not an inherent quality of the Left. Both sides have to call out the posers who attempt to taint their ideology with views of bigotry.

  • Okay I need Ethan and Hila Klein (of h3h3 productions) to get on this ASAP. They catch things I don’t sometimes..

  • If one will allow themselves to get "pulled down a YouTube rabbit hole", then YouTube isn't the problem. If you allow an algorithm to dictate how far into one side of a political spectrum you go, YouTube isn't the problem. If people decide to pull right, it is totally fine to lure them back to the left

If one will allow themselves to get "pulled down a YouTube rabbit hole", then YouTube isn't the problem. If you allow an algorithm to dictate how far into one side of a political spectrum you go, YouTube isn't the problem. If people decide to pull right, it is totally fine to lure them back to the left, so long as you both then meet in the middle. The presented concept in this article of blaming the internet for polarization of the state isn't really accurate, but still a fair observation. Although the algorithms tend to cater to this phenomena, it is important to point out that this tendency is embedded in humans already, the algos are simply exploiting that.

What I have a hard time accepting about this woman's approach (although I'm willing to entertain her ideas) is how she makes it sound as though she wants to convert them into leftists because she personally disagrees with the ways of the far right. In her own words, she acts as "the left's immune system". If one disagrees with political polarization, then their position should be center-based, not on the other end (to any degree) of the spectrum in question. By planting your feet on the left side of the fence, you are disabling yourself from empathizing with those standing on the right side of the fence. It would make more sense to do what she is doing, but while sitting on the fence instead. Despite this opinion of mine (and that's all it is), good on her for making the observation and taking action in her own way. 👍

  • I hope the changes surrounding net neutrality do not impact social philosophers / activists like Wynn. While I may not always agree with her opinions, her approach in inspiring discussion (rather than conflict) is sorely needed. And she does it in costume - bonus!

  • I ♥️ Natalie Wynn!

  • Biggest concern is, the left not learning it's lesson. When you're indoctrinated in school that you are oppressive because you have a penis and pale skin, even when you are poor. All you get is a group of people that has been oppressed by the tolerant group. When the potential leader of the Free world

All you get is a group of people that has been oppressed by the tolerant group. When the potential leader of the Free world calls half the country deplorable, how are you supposed to embrace those people?

  • I'm so proud!

  • Isn’t calling them far right or alt right just a way to render their arguments invalid?
