  • Caveat: This early in a crowded primary, the media doesn’t have the people or the $$ to cover everybody all the time. Another caveat: I’ve never covered a primary season where candidates didn’t complain about the tone or the amount of their coverage .

Last caveat: I imagine the other men running for

Last caveat: I imagine the other men running for President. were also none too pleased with the warm shower of attention Beto got.

But—this is different -sort of a class action complaint on behalf of women presidential candidates, feels like a shot across the bow to newsrooms . #candidatestoo

  • I agree Beto hasn’t earned the right to the coverage he gets, but disagree on where the line of separation is drawn. It’s not drawn on gender.

Beto deserves no special recognition. He’s unaccomplished. He has no clear policy positions, not even any particularly interesting ones. He’s another Obama

Beto deserves no special recognition. He’s unaccomplished. He has no clear policy positions, not even any particularly interesting ones. He’s another Obama. A fairly well spoken (when scripted) mouthpiece whose inspirational platitudes really say nothing.

You don’t have to support Bernie to understand his policy positions are clear. But that clarity provides the opportunity for the opposition to strike. Beto’s vague rhetoric is meaningless and can’t be attacked on specifics which don’t exist. Warren, and others, like Bernie, have actual platforms. And some degree of accomplishment.

The line isn’t between Beto and female candidates, it’s between Beto and all other candidates. The leftist press has granted Beto demigod status. Not on gender. He’s AOC in a different race. But Beto is getting the press attention and pass on scrutiny exactly as AOC was given. It’s not gender.

  • He really is a stuffed shirt, with no fleshed out policy positions. America is a little more interested in solutions right now than they’re taking another hit of hopium. I just don’t know what Betophiles see in him as a candidate.

That being said, the piece is an entirely fair critique. Though I find

That being said, the piece is an entirely fair critique. Though I find it interesting how brazenly the left decides to cannibalize itself.

  • It's hilarious that Biden, Beto, and Bernie are so well-liked in the Democrat party. Bernie is no doubt the radical front runner at this point, Beto is the AOC of presidential hopefuls, and Biden is an Obama callback.

And yet, they're all straight, rich, white, AND male; all things I thought the Left

  • Hopium! Huge props to Paul for that one.

  • Political journalists have learned nothing from 2016. Nothing.

  • An empty suit just like Obama.

  • I find it odd that news reporters that have injected themselves, and their personal politics, into Presidential politics, even going as far as siding with one candidate in a debate, would today be complaining about reporter bias.

  • Geez, now Democrat’s are going to be turning on each other, good grief. Last time I checked the biggest phenom in history was a black male from Illinois. How quickly do they forget.

  • The focus on personality politics defocuses the election fro meaningful issues. Beto is one example. Let's encourage coverage of all the candidates policy proposals.

  • Beto was the best Democratic choice for Texas, but will his centrist ways play with the Bernie Bros? Or the AOC acolytes? While the recent revelations of his hacker credentials and immature postings makes Beto more contemporary, more relevant to 2020 America, it also opens him up to cynical, conspiratorial

Beto was the best Democratic choice for Texas, but will his centrist ways play with the Bernie Bros? Or the AOC acolytes? While the recent revelations of his hacker credentials and immature postings makes Beto more contemporary, more relevant to 2020 America, it also opens him up to cynical, conspiratorial attacks about voting, polling, his "real identity", all the tropes the GOP and whacky Right love to use to bamboozle the electorate.

  • Frankly, it's crazy to me how anyone could describe Obama as an "empty suit", yet not be outraged with the burger grease filled one currently inhabiting the White House. Then again, racism & sexism can lead to a lot irrational decision making, which is probably what Beto is counting on to win the nomination.

  • I find this humorous. I'm surprised Democrats know what a double standard is!

  • Life is just not “fair.” This article seems to suggest that “appeal” is somehow quantifiable. The subjective aspect of what people like in others and why they like them can be hard to quantify. I LOVE Elizabeth Warren but my gut tells me that she is not as likeable as a Beto O’Rourke or an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

  • The reason he has not publicly espoused policies is the same reason he nearly beat ultraconservative Ted Cruz, under that "Toothy Kennedy Grin" he is Republican-lite.
