    The reason? Because social-media promised to “change the world” and it did, for better and for worse. Today’s youth prefers to vote with their dollars in retail and experiential purchases, and most impressively, vote with their time at work - to do something meaningful. Health care startups can be lucrative and enriching for their employees. I hope this trend continues !

    So a “Social Mission” but it has to have a big payoff for companies and their employees. We already have Big Pharma, insurance and hospital holding company executives (like HCA) making millions in compensation driving up the cost of healthcare while medical bills account for almost 60% of personal bankruptcies. The real social mission is still served by nurses and other people who provide hands-on patient care, teachers, firefighters, police officers and people at social service organizations all

The real social mission is still served by nurses and other people who provide hands-on patient care, teachers, firefighters, police officers and people at social service organizations all who are paid relatively low wages for their contribution to the well being, education and safety of our society. Sure these health tech companies are a great thing, but let’s not diminish the meaning of working to benefit humanity. These high tech gunslingers will eventually be off to the next startup that pays them more money.

  • Um yeah but... Facebook has a lot of “problems’ might best be left out of health and education and Google still sends the odd car the wrong way on a one way street. Of course googles argument is still “ but Officer! “I” was only going “one way”!
