  • The first lesson you learn working with startups: doubled from 1 doesn't mean anything.

Neat headline but Netflix already has massive adoption and Hulu less so... Hulu gaining relatively *more* subscribers doesn't mean squat.

  • One of the discussions that stood out to me in the video is about how we're reaching saturation with subscription services similar to how we reached saturation with the 500+ channels on cable. The "subscription streaming" model is ready for a massive change (don't want to use the word 'disruption' :))

  • I would expect this subscriber number to grow as well. Spotify has 100 million premium subscribers, all of whom now have access to the base Hulu plan. Anecdotally, many of my friends have started to use Hulu again as a result of the partnership.

  • Curious to see what a "binge" ad is vs. their "pause" ad. While commercials are the worst, it's neat to see Hulu experimenting with streaming ads here.

  • Hulu continues to grow as an exciting platform which will directs compete with Netflix.

  • Streaming wars are heating up even more - thanks to DIS /HULU. If I’m Comcast, I hold out on selling my 30% stake to DIS. Just keep driving that price higher as HULU benefits from DIS+ and ESPN+. Content just got more expensive for the likes of NFLX too. Now, what about the consumer? Seems to me that

Content just got more expensive for the likes of NFLX too. Now, what about the consumer? Seems to me that pricing will head higher with more “must have” streaming services. Will this make the consumer miss the old school days of cable? Likely not but as advertising becomes more prevalent - as this article notes - the streaming experience stuffers. Lately, AT&T... what are they going to do to compete now that the TWX acquisition is done? And that DTV deal doesn’t look great nowadays. Something has to give there.

For the depth and scale of its portfolio, there are not only barriers to entry, but also barriers to success that are not going to be easy to overcome, even if companies are the size and scale of the FAANG.

  • To be honest they had a lot of ground to cover. Lots of people already regularly use Netflix...not a:s much room for growth...

  • Hopefully with the new subscribers base they can make hulu not suck.

  • It’s worrying how much IP Disney owns, now that they’re also buying and building distribution networks. And with the near-endless well of pre-existing Marvel content, there is less room for original stories.

  • More to confuse us. Hulu is connected to Spotify premium, but also connected to Disney. Pretty soon streaming is cable all over again because you will need to own several streaming channels and that is a no no. I can’t wait to see how this evolves.

  • This growth is amazing to see!
