This is huge news that Reuters' journalists, jailed in Myanmar for just doing their jobs, have now been freed.
I worked at Reuters in '17-'18 while these two journalists were in jail. My boss's boss traveled to Myanmar several times in an attempt to secure their release. One time he canceled a big review meeting on the project I'd been working on for months and I was a little bummed out. Then I found out it was to take a last minute trip to negotiate for their release. Now anyone else's meeting cancellations pale in comparison.
Importantly good news for Aung San Suu Kyi
This is great, great news. For devoted reporters, this is no real surprise but people outside the industry may appreciate the reporters' commitment to journalism after this experience: "I can’t wait to go to my newsroom," Wa Lone said.
A win for them and for all journalists .I hope they can resume their careers safely.
