Abortion Ban Rattles America's Top Film State

By Bloomberg

No one meant for this to happen: That’s the quiet buzz in Georgia’s film and business communities this week, as more major Hollywood studios threatened to leave the U.S.’s top movie and television production state because of its new abortion banRead full story

When our leaders actions do not align with what they say, or if what they say is reprehensible and their actions mirror that, then it is time to consider the possibility of a malevolent incentive for the actions. Perhaps the media and legislature don't actually want our country to prosper. If that is the case, revolt!

The hypocrisy of the media industry knows no bounds. They have no problems working in countries that forbid abortions, subjugate women, or have a significant rape culture crying that these are local cultural issues but refuse to acknowledge a neighbor's right to limit (not outlaw) abortion. NIMBY principal in practice or just bullying. What would happen if GA just said your business isn't worth our moral beliefs? Likely, probably not. That's why bullying persists: a lack of fortitude to stand up

PS. The govt is always telling people what to do with their bodies: 21 to drink or smoke, prescriptions for drugs, seat belts, motorcycle helmets, etc.

It’s the State of Georgia (U.S.A.) that is doing the bullying here (of its own people) Hollywood has to respond or lose business elsewhere.

  • When will Quartz add a downvote button? The ignorance expressed in several of these comments is mind boggling.

The talk is worthless without action. Need to start showing its real. Redirecting money to other politicians is useless, as they aren't the voters. They are the power that scares the establishment

Why this new push for controlling women, again?

This really has nothing to do with religion, as texts don't even mention it. It is also the pinnacle of hypocrisy as these same people seem more worried about a clump of cells than actual humans, which is against the teachings of most religions.

Combine these retreats towards the dark ages with a ridiculous President, whose idea of diplomacy is bullying, and I see this as only more reason the rest of the world will pull away from the US.

Abortion isn't a government issue. It is an individual issue. The U.S. Constitution does not in any way give politicians the eight to dictate to any individual what they can do with their own bodies. The hypocrisy here is with the religious fundamentalists, people that are breaking the tenants of their own religion while insisting that the rest of society has to follow them. It's also the politicians that insist that they are Conservatives. Conservative people do not dictate what other people do

Both the Republican party and the Christian fundamentalists and evangelicals have proven themselves to be liars and hypocrites.

In my view? All the film industry ought to target the theocratic Republican states as well and stop production for any religious right outfits!

Anthony you know better than that. Govt interferes with everything you do to your body. Cannabis laws. Suicide. Foods have to be FDA approved. Organic standards. The regs are just too numerous to list.

As to what science says about the child in the womb, life. The Constitution, our only moral code, protects life, liberty and property from being violated. The child is Constitutionally protected. One more thing regarding choice, it's at the fucking not at the consequence thereof.

Georgia doesn’t need these hollyweirdos-They need Georgia-Let them throw their tantrums because they don’t get their way. They want to control how everyone lives when they can’t control their own lives.

Something else missed here is that times have changed. GA's law is not your grandmother's abortion law. Sex education and contraception is widely available without the taboo. Home pregnancy tests are on the drugstore shelves in case you don't care enough to take precautions against unplanned pregnancy. The day-after-pill is a rush of human hormones to prevent implantation of a human zygote. I think out here "in the dark" we know Hollywood production companies personnel including executives and actresses

I think out here "in the dark" we know Hollywood production companies personnel including executives and actresses don't want to shut down filming because of an unplanned pregnancy. If a human life has to die to protect multimillion dollar contracts and the careers for which they stand that's a terrible shame. It's Orwellian, this generation, when "get a life" stands in for "take a life". "Get real" stands in for "Be fake, have fun, take the money and run." Get real, take precautions, take life seriously. Your identity won't be worth a thing when you are dead, gone and forgotten, blasted by death to molecules, only persistent as the stench in star dust which persists, but a legacy of life that is a thing presenting possibilities.
