Good afternoon.
Chinese exports dropped unexpectedly. China announced that overall exports were down 1.1% in November compared to the year before, while exports to the US had fallen 23%, Bloomberg reports. The numbers may put pressure on Beijing to accede to a trade deal.

Doubting DNA evidence
A human chimera shows why DNA evidence is questionable. After receiving a bone marrow transplant, Chris Long's DNA was almost entirely replaced by his donor's—at least as far as genetic tests are concerned.
This is an amazingly spooky real life story that almost rivals Greek myths about the chimera. A man in the US got a bone marrow transplant. His donor was an unknown German fellow. Now they increasingly share DNA as a result of the medical procedure and the transplant recipient is rapidly vanishing from

Now they increasingly share DNA as a result of the medical procedure and the transplant recipient is rapidly vanishing from a genetic perspective. He is a human chimera.

Trump's legal troubles
The US House Judiciary Committee debunked six "fallacies of impeachment." Following a marathon eight-hour hearing with legal experts, the democrat-controlled body released a 50-page report defending its investigation.

Among other things, the report attempts to address and debunk six "fallacies of impeachment" that Donald Trump has advanced.
Objectivity is on trial in Trump's impeachment hearings. A republican congressman sought to undermine a panel of four legal experts by asking whether they voted for Donald Trump—attacking a core principle of the judiciary system that people can put biases aside and act impartially.
On Wednesday I attended the hearing on constitutional grounds for impeachment of Donald Trump. It was a heartening affair because it shows a lively republic in pursuit of truth and it's always fun to see civics in action.

On Wednesday I attended the hearing on constitutional grounds for impeachment of Donald Trump. It was a heartening affair because it shows a lively republic in pursuit of truth and it's always fun to see civics in action.
But it was disheartening because Republicans attacked the constitutional scholars testifying, questioning their objectivity and suggesting that they could not possibly be unbiased if they didn't reveal how they voted in the last presidential elections. And with each observer they manage to convince of this impossibility, we all lose a little bit more.
Trump's taxes will stay secret, for now. Trump argues that, as the president, his financial records are special. Lower courts have disagreed—but the US Supreme Court has granted the president's legal team more time to work on their petition.
US president Donald Trump yesterday got what he wanted from, of all people, Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The progressive jurist granted the Republican president's request for a stay that would suspend an order in a lower court allowing his financial records to be reviewed.
But RBG was't
US president Donald Trump yesterday got what he wanted from, of all people, Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The progressive jurist granted the Republican president's request for a stay that would suspend an order in a lower court allowing his financial records to be reviewed.
But RBG was't signaling her approval of Trump's legal stance, just giving him time to file a petition for review, and it happened to be her because the justices rotate duties with respect to emergency applications. Now the House of Representatives must respond by Dec. 11 and the justices will ultimately have to decide if they want to walk into this political landmine and accept review of three financial matters dealing with Trump's records and his claims the executive is special.

SCOTUS update
The world's eyes are on a US child abduction case. The supreme court will decide how to apply international law in the case of a mother taking her daughter from Italy to the US to flee her allegedly abusive ex-husband.
There is something especially heartening about a cross-cultural love story. It shows that humans are all essentially the same and that our differences are merely superficial.
But when love turns into hate and parents of differing nationalities break up, there's nothing more terrifying than the idea

But when love turns into hate and parents of differing nationalities break up, there's nothing more terrifying than the idea that your once true love will take off with your child to another land.
This week the US Supreme Court will consider just such a horror story, the tale of a small child separated from her mother and at the center of an international custody dispute of global significance.

Amazon is struggling to hold onto overworked, underpaid pilots. Pushed to their limits and fed up with unreasonable demands, 60% of the pilots who work for Amazon contractors are looking for other jobs, according to one union survey.
The same safety regulations should apply to all pilots. There have been enough episodes of "MAYDAY " highlighting the dangers of pilot fatigue. It is surprising that neither the NTSB or the FAA hasn't stepped in to stop this dangerous discrepancy. An additional control would be to extend responsibility
The same safety regulations should apply to all pilots. There have been enough episodes of "MAYDAY " highlighting the dangers of pilot fatigue. It is surprising that neither the NTSB or the FAA hasn't stepped in to stop this dangerous discrepancy. An additional control would be to extend responsibility for hours of service to any company that charters an aircraft.
The same logic should also apply to all commercial drivers. By making the customer responsible would eliminate the excuse that delivery drivers are independent contractors not controlled by the "customer".
Boeing flew real Star Wars X-Wings at a Disney grand opening. The sci-fi star fighters offered an early glimpse at Boeing's experimental line of drones, designed to lug 500 pounds (227 kg) of cargo for industrial clients, TechCrunch reports.
This was out of this world. Having X-Wings fly at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge for the media day for the Rise of the Resistance attraction and the attraction's opening day for the public, was a really, really gutsy move from Boeing and Disney, considering that the drones are still in testing phases.

The X-Wing designs make use of forced perspective which is frequently used at Disney Parks to make buildings appear larger or, in some cases, further away, than they really are.
