  • Young Americans, and people from any country, should spend more money and TLC on their marriage rather than their wedding. Weddings can be beautiful, but the expense should be budget-appropriate

  • I'm a millennial and this is just sad. Debt always comes due later and you'll suffer longer than the few days of bliss you had for that wedding. And wedding's aren't about "Instagrammable"--it's about a vow and sharing the rest of your life with your partner.

We need to stop these status games, it's a zero-sum game where everyone just suffers because they are trying to live up to an image they--in real life--cannot live up to. That's why they are all depressed, because they can't live up to the image and expectations they set up for themselves on social media. They aren't being truthful and honest with themselves and the reality--it's easier to pretend you are living the life you're posting on Instagram than facing the reality of real life and struggle.

The hilarious thing is these same millennials will give up when the marriage isn't going well and an Instagram DM from someone pursuing them to a Tinder swipe is just seconds away to them giving up on the marriage because it doesn't live up to the life they are blasting on social media.

Stop living an instagram life and live your real life, struggle, dedication, facing your fears, being vulnerable and embracing your shortcomings is what leads to wealth and long-term success and happiness. Not these stupid status games.

There are people in all generations who have done this and who will continue to, social media has just amped up how much we see and magnified ‘the need’ to impress.
