  • Median wage in some southern states is less than $14 an hour. But why not? We no longer live in a world with trade offs.

The first year showed minor improvement but each subsequent year has shown immense growth. Applications for food handler's permits have increased each year as well, indicating increased minimum wage jobs. The same thing happened in San Francisco. Although SF was a growing tech hub at the time of their increase, Seattle wasn't--the increase predates the bulk of Amazon's growth. In fact, I've never run across an example of a minimum wage increase causing a downturn.

  • It's a great chess move. They get to complain that it dies in the Senate, and reap the credit for supposedly trying while not actually suffering the consequences of shipwrecking the economy.

  • A $15 federal minimum wage would be a disaster. It’s barely enough to live on in San Francisco, and over the median wage in Oklahoma. The minimum wage DOES need to be raised— just not that far! Why people are so insistent that we need to *double* the federal minimum, effective immediately, is completely

Why people are so insistent that we need to *double* the federal minimum, effective immediately, is completely beyond me.

Also, I completely agree with Steve Foerster that this bill is a cynical (but smart) political play by the House Dems.

  • Remember how this was unthinkable prior to 2016? Take note that ideas are important!
