Donald Trump claims he’s not interested in the UK’s national health service. There has been a bitter debate in the UK over the NHS, and its potential role in post-Brexit trade talks between Britain and the US, the BBC reports. Trump has previously said: “When you’re dealing in trade, everything is on the table. So NHS or anything else.”

  • I highly doubt whether Donald trump even understands the trade implications of a one-payer system purchasing medical supplies and medicines from the US vs an open payer system. But then again, the medical-financial networks across the world are so complicated, does anyone?

  • There are a lot of things that need to happen before any meaningful discussion of trade can happen. Boris Johnson needs a majority government that will support his quest for Brexit and President Trump needs to avoid impeachment. That said it would not surprise me if the NHS was presented by US negotiators

That said it would not surprise me if the NHS was presented by US negotiators as an unfair subsidy. It is an obvious negotiation tactic and it would be up to the UK to make sure it isn't included.
