Just how deadly is the coronavirus? It’s simply too early to say. The pneumonia-like virus currently has a fatality rate of about 2%, lower than either SARS or MERs. But only careful studies over the coming months will be able to tell if that estimate is accurate.

  • A growing number of scientific studies are being done and seem to converge toward a fatality rate of 2% or lower. Also, the most recent report (7 Feb 2020) suggesting that out of the 31,161 people infected in China there are about 630 related deaths (2,02%) is consistent with this evaluation.
