  • Absolutely genius on both of their parts. Obama is seeking a platform potentially more powerful than the Presidency, and I bet Netflix can give it to him. Ironic that Trump went from media to government, and Obama is doing the reverse.

  • A high profile, unfiltered arena with the potential to make him the most visible, most vocal ex-US president in modern history. “In one possible show idea, Mr. Obama could moderate conversations on topics that dominated his presidency — health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, climate change —“ At 56, there is still a lot of legacy to shape.

  • What if it’s just another doc series about which city has the best pizza? Seriously, though, I predict this won’t be directly political, but will tell stories that combine journalistic reporting with people overcoming odds. I also predict I’ll cry through every episode — even if it’s current events, it will be escapist TV for me.

  • Can you imagine if this was a collection of fictional stories about political and racial struggles? Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was just a documentary series or a hosted interview series but Obama is uncharacteristically gifted in thought and creativity so we could be in store for some thing spectacular here.

Honestly, Kobe Bryant just won an Oscar so we know that the possibilities are endless. Barack Obama could be next--the first former President turned Oscar winner.

Stroke of genius. Traditionally former presidents step out of the limelight, take the foundation route, and generally keep their opinions to themselves. Granted Al Gore made films about the environment but that was two films, he was not a common presence in our lexicon. Obama and his team clearly plan to be real present if they are talking a series. They found a way to get into the mix, be influential, take on issues he cares about in an “acceptable” way. This is going to be fascinating.

I would watch every single thing the Obamas appeared in or produced.

This could be epic. I hope it happens. It would be unprecedented .

The idea that a centrist like Obama would offer some sort of from-the-left challenge to Breitbart is silly, but I still love the guy. I'll be there for whatever this ends up being.

    YAAAAS!!! ❤❤❤

I knew there was a reason I couldn't boycott Netflix for Monique! Now all I need is for Michelle, Sasha, and Malia to get their own shows and I'm good to life!

This is exactly what I need: an alternative reality series where we get to pretend we still have a good president. Sign me up for 200 episodes immediately.

  • “Mr. Obama has discussed with technology executives and wealthy investors the threats to American democracy from the manipulation of news.”

That’s the thing about Obama, you hope for something as profound as Newsroom, but more than likely are ending up with a bunch of documentaries on how to incorporate quinoa in schools.

  • He’s soooo smart. Not only will we watch and move important discussions forward, but he will beat 45 at the TV game without even trying. Can’t wait to watch!!!

  • It isn’t clear what this will be but I know what I want: Black Mirror/Coupling/etc format around socioeconomic stories.

  • Although it is unclear what this will be, exactly. I will watch it. It will give me hope and I'm sure I will cry.

Much like their choice in artists to paint their official portraits, I expect Obama-produced Netflix content to be equal parts thoughtful, slightly edgy, and, if you’re paying close enough attention, subversive in a multitude of ways.

  • It seems to me that they would do well to start out as executive producers with a reputable production company but they certainly stand to do even more good through a platform like this.

He has over 100 million twitter follower and 55 million Facebooks likes, so how could this show be a fail?

I’ll watch the Obamas any day of the week. If they approach their programming like Anthony Bourdain, all the better.

  • The new alternative for former presidents. TV deals to promote their message. President Trump, I imagine, will go back to NBC.

Whether a documentary series, interview show, fictional take on real-world issues, or creative looks at fun topics, creations from Obama's mind is sure to be impactful, unique, and legacy-building. Looking forward to seeing what comes!

  • Obama has too much respect for the Presidency to drag the jackass who succeeded him through the mud, as tempting and easy as it might be for him. Rather, look for him to revive the role of the public intellectual, dead in this country for decades, and Netflix could be the ideal medium.

  • Don’t forget that Barack Obama’s twitter following is twice as big as Donald Trump’s.

Highly watchable, and a thoughtful medium of communication. I will err on the side of being pessimistic because it would be nice if he didn't just walk away from the job with a whisper.

A whisper can change the world though, so lets see what this message will bring that defers so greatly from the fictional works of Aaron Sorkin.

I welcome a cerebral conversation about policy and the world at large. We have so few cerebral conversations anymore.

  • Interesting news. also surprising with the growing subscriber number of Netflix, now 118 million.

I’m so glad the Obamas will once again have a platform from which to share their innovative ideas and intelligent opinions with a country in desperate need of smart, thoughtful and kind voices of reason. It will be such a refreshing change from the loud, boorish voices of treason we’ve been hearing since Obama left the White House.I know I have missed this brilliant, wonderful man. It will be such a comfort to hear from this eloquent statesman once again.

  • Personally, I’m looking forward to a reality show featuring Michelle and Tiffany Trump.
