Good afternoon.

Facebook pushes free speech and payments

Facebook’s payments strategy isn’t Libra, it’s WhatsApp. Mark Zuckerberg hopes to test WhatsApp Pay in Mexico before the end of 2019. The ramifications are far more realistic than Libra's theoretical impact on US monetary policy—and they would affect users worldwide.

American tech companies seem eager to go to South America for testing their financial solutions (Due to the small number of people having access to a bank, lower than the US). With WhatsApp's presence in Brazil and other South American countries, Facebook's bet on WhatsApp as payments strategy looks way more logical than Visa-betrayed Libra.

Facebook's Libra has won all the headlines recently. But over the last couple years, it's been WhatsApp that's quietly pioneered payments in India. Facebook is looking to go international with WhatsApp Pay.

Impeachment watch

How can you know which Trump impeachment polls to believe? As with all polling, the results depend to some extent on who is polled, what they are asked, and when.

How to know which Trump impeachment polls to believe

Here’s what this comes down to:

(1). Is national support for impeachment and removal north of 70%?

(2). Is GOP support north of 50%?

(3). Support for impeachment in the key Senate races in 2020.

(4). Data on whether Congressional Republicans are better off with Trump at the top of the ticket or

(4). Data on whether Congressional Republicans are better off with Trump at the top of the ticket or someone else (like Romney).

This is a mathematical question and nothing else.

Brexit deal reached

The EU and the UK agreed on a Brexit deal, but there are many hurdles ahead. Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party said it’s still not backing the deal, BBC reports. Their support is essential if Johnson wants to pass it through parliament on Saturday.

We now have a hastily-agreed, last-minute deal, an agreement that would ensure a reasonably orderly British departure from the EU. But despite Boris Johnson’s fanfare, the devil’s in the detail. The Tory party’s own partner in this strange minority government, Northern Ireland’s DUP, won’t back this deal, making it unlikely it’ll get through Parliament.

The world in 50 years

What will we eat? “A lot more plants,” says scientist and author Bill Nye. Check out the predictions from artist and activist Mai Khôi, Andreessen Horowitz general partner Vijay Pande, transhumanist Zoltan Istvan, and more thought leaders.

The World in 50 Years: What will we eat?

First, what a great project Quartz has put together here. Second, eating will be determined by how fast the microprocessor evolves. If we become full cyborgs dependent on solar, etc, we could very quickly as a species lose our need for biological food altogether. That’s what the Singularity is sbout

Super radical!

Marking 30 years of the web

The mysterious sounds that defined the early days of the internet. Before we were always online, logging on to the internet was a journey through sound. Here’s what those sounds actually meant.

A series of mysterious bleeps and bloops defined the early days of the Internet

The dial up sound was the soundtrack to a very distinct period in my life, and I never thought about that until I saw a video of the reactions of kids who had never heard it. I found this piece deeply satisfying for a question I never knew I had.

My dad worked on satellites when I was a kid, so my house was an early adopter of many things—including dial-up. I’d constantly request my dad “make the computers talk”—I was obsessed with the sounds modems made! I didn’t realize till I read this article how spot-on my childhood simplification was.

If you don't have a heart to give shelter, food and clothes to the needy people why the hell do you go to fight for them in their countries and displace more and more of them! These people who were fighting their own battles quietly got displaced because YOUR PRESIDENT, politicians and Russia have been playing game of thrones in middle east. In the name of justice, you start a full blown war wherever you go, whenever you want.

Mr. Trump himself said one day that he cares for Syrian people and cannot tolerate the atrocities by Assad so he bombs the place and kills more innocent people next day. Is this your brand of justice and humanity? How many syrian people you took as refugees if you really care for them?

Now, to top that 68% of hypocrite evangelicals think America shouldn't house refugees at all! I am really amazed by this irony.

Don't blow their roof first and then expect to watch it like 4th of July fireworks. Man up, grow a pair and step up! To be human act human and even before that just think human!

    God bless America!

  • I missed the part where Christian values became so unchristian.

I am not a practicing anything but there is no clearer message in the Bible than loving and caring for others,;especially those who are other, poor, cast out or seeking refuge. It makes you wonder what it means to be evangelical. I am not a practicing anything but there is no clearer message in the Bible than loving and caring for others,;especially those who are other, poor, cast out or seeking refuge. I always wonder how you can so seemingly genuinely express evangelical beliefs and so blatantly espouse the opposite. How do you reconcile that?
