Amazon just bought a tiny startup most people have never heard of and it's scaring the heck out of pharmacy shareholders (CVS, WBA, RAD)
Today, Amazon spent $1 billion and made $20 billion in return.
That’s how much Amazon’s market capitalization increased since yesterday.
Remarkably, Jeff Bezos is $3.5 billion richer for his decision to spend $1bn of his company’s money.
Love it or hate it, such is the power and scale of Amazon.
Amazon speaks and the markets listen.

Amazon is taking on another industry! Out of pure convenience it is nice to have your prescriptions mailed to you instead of planning your day around picking up your medications. It would be nice to not have to worry and have someone else take over the responsibility of remembering to refill your prescription

Capsule based in New York looks attractive as a prescription fulfillment player in the e-health market. Good sign with large acquisitions in the space. All the pharmacies better take note and act because the front line of health care is not getting folks to come into a CVS health but bringing the service to the customer.
If Apple and Google are equally big and also have tons of money available why looks like Amazon that will conquer the world? In the end is logistics the ultimate asset?
I am beginning to believe that without Amazon, we would all be stuck in this era of inefficient consumerism. Amazon is brining a future of convenience to us all. As much as I appreciate and am excited by the future Amazon is bringing us, this behemoth corporation accumulating more and more power is beginning to scare me.
Dear Jeff, can you tell me what industry you aren’t taking over so I know where I can safely go into business :)
If you are familiar with the Boston entrepreneurial ecosystem then you’ve been aware of @PillPack for years. Congratulations on the acquisition. Hope investors are happy so they can reinvest their gains!
Express Scripts offers a similar service to what Amazon is targeting. If Amazon can provide a <24 hour delivery for short term prescriptions, there is only an upside to this.
Amazon is the modern world’s corporate superpower.
Online pharmacy... cool
Perhaps they will do a better job than companies like optumRX. More power to Amazon. More money in my pocket as a letter carrier too!!!!
why is a $1 billion valued company referred to as tiny??? seriously!
King Jeff the first.
So is the antitrust board just going to ignore Amazon forever?
Soon we won’t have to go anywhere just sitting there waiting
Gotta love a capalistic society.. my whole life big pharma seemed untouchable
there is still necessity to have immediate access to getting your medication
People bitch about Amazon, but where’s the uproar over price-gouging of simple generic drugs? Sometimes size protects, as in Medicare/Obamacare.
Amazon makes one move and they Rock an entire industry.
It’s a good idea but /in the meantime : people losing their jobs at those pharmacies
Love it !!!
