Walmart recalled thousands of chicken broth cartons over packaging blimps. The recall affects over 2,000 cases of the company’s Great Value brand.
“Ghosting” gives hiring a bad name
Greenhouse, a platform for job seekers, conducted a recent study that found about 20% of job postings last quarter were “ghost jobs” – positions that were advertised but never actually filled.
Some industries fare worse than others, with as many as one in three listings being a “ghost job.” According to Greenhouse, companies sometimes post these vacant positions to create a false sense of growth or to attract talent for future openings that may never materialize.
The trend is making it harder for job seekers to distinguish between legitimate opportunities and those that aren’t worth pursuing. So which sectors are leading the “ghost job” trend? Quartz’s Ben Kesslen has those details.
China’s trade surplus is booming, for now
Just a week before president-elect Donald Trump is set to enter the White House with plans to impose high tariffs on China, the country says its trade surplus from last year broke a record, coming close to $1 trillion.
That comes amid Trump’s massive tariff threats, which could be up to 60% on Chinese imports, and a more modest 25% on goods from countries like Mexico. Trump’s administration is reportedly looking to only impose those steep taxes on certain imports.
What industries could see significant price hikes? Quartz’s Britney Nguyen has more.
