The UK might have to settle a bill worth tens of billions of euros before leaving the EU

The UK could be forced to pay some €100 billion ($115 billion) to the EU before leaving the bloc, though the value depends on the negotiations.

The UK made a series of financial commitments with the EU while it was still a member. Now, even though it exited the bloc, it has to pay that bill.

The final value depends on the negotiations. The Financial Times talks about a gross bill ranging from €91 billion to €113 billion.

So for now, chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier is not less concerned with the value and more on agreeing on a method to calculate it.
