British graduates are less willing to move for jobs

Only 1% of people with graduate degrees in the UK moved to another British region and to another job in 2016, from 1.8% in 2001.

Young British graduates are more reluctant to leave their homes and jobs for new opportunities, according to British think-tank Resolution Foundation.

That lack of movement could be contributing to suppressed wages and production in the UK. It also causes labor shortages, making it harder for companies to find qualified workers.

But that lack of mobility is also bad for workers. Moving jobs while young often guarantees a pay raise. A change of region and job in the UK tends to increase pay some £2,000.

And those who are not willing to move might waste their graduate education in positions for which they are overqualified.
