Amazon is expanding in Mexico where it hopes to capture 120 million potential customers

Only 3% of retail sales in Mexico happen online, compared to 10% in the US. Amazon is trying to change that by increasing its presence in the country.

Amazon has two distribution centers in Mexico, measuring a total of 500,000 sq ft (46,450 sq m). Now the company started building a third, measuring 1 million sq ft (92,900 sq m).

The warehouse will triple the storage space of Amazon in Mexico, allowing for 15 million more products.

More distribution space will also give Amazon a better chance of competing with MercadoLibre, the company that leads in online sales in Mexico, and stay ahead of Linio and Walmart.
