Germany is giving financial assistance to refugees that return home voluntarily

Germany is offering financial assistance to refugees that, after having their applications denied, return home voluntarily. It’s offering €1,000 ($1,185) to individuals and €3,000 ($3,555) to families.

Under the program, open for applications until February, subsidies are also available for travel and housing.

Germany gave assistance to some 8,000 refugees between February and October—a small number compared with the 160,000 refugees that had their application denied in the first half of 2017.

Germany received 890,000 migrants at the peak of the migration crisis in 2015. Since then, numbers dropped considerably, to 280,000 in 2016, and 90,000 in the first half of 2017.
