U.S. food safety regulators issued a recall Friday of more than 2,000 pounds of ready-to-eat frozen chicken that may be contaminated with listeria.
The chicken was distributed by Al-Safa US LLC, located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.
Here are the chicken products being recalled
- 12.1-oz. cardboard box package with “Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab” and “NOV 30 25” and “0605404” printed on the package.
- 14.11-oz. cardboard box package with “Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty” and “NOV 30 25” and “0605416” printed on the package.
FSIS said the products in question have the establishment number “866.” They were shipped to locations nationwide.
The possible listeria contamination was discovered during routine testing. There have been no reported instances of someone contracting listeria from eating the products.
Listeria is particularly dangerous in older adults, immunocompromised people, pregnant people and young children. It can cause fevers, aches, stiff neck, headaches, and stomach issues.
The announcement follows a nationwide recall in June of 13 different ice cream brands that the government feared were possibly infected with listeria.
