‪Turns out international relations is hard? The always smart Isaac Stone Fish on the problem of Hong Kong & Taiwan, “the democratic island supported by the United States that Beijing has claimed since 1949, and which remains the likeliest Archduke Franz Ferdinand for World War III.”

Given the amount of cynicism, hate and tragedy around us today, what could be better than the wholesomeness of becoming, community and neighborhood? Especially as a parent now, I’m glad Mr Rogers is trending with his timeless wisdom. In the words of America’s favorite neighbor. “I’m just so proud of all of you who have grown up with us. And I know how tough it is some days to look with hope and confidence on the months and years ahead,” he said. “But I would like to tell you what I often told you

Turkey’s “Asia pivot” is long overdue and only natural for a Eurasian state that has always looked west to europe but been rejected. Asia is clearly the future and waiting with open arms which will only enhance Ankara’s value globally.

A shame that the 400 year anniversary of what happened in Jamestown was overshadowed by contemporary politics because as Mark Tooley writes, “That Summer of 1619 along the James River ensured that America would become the world’s greatest republic, which would also suffer across its history almost unbridgeable social and racial divides. From Virginia’s legislature would emerge the ethos and traditions to combat injustice, culminating in Jefferson’s affirmation of human equality. And from it would

And from it would emerge a system of governance, in Madison’s Constitution, that countered inevitable human avarice, pride and frailty with checks and balances.”

Beautiful tribute to a true trailblazer by Yumiko Murakami who I still remember meeting for the first time in Ivanka Trump fashion that she said had helped her bond with the First Daughter as she led Japan’s W20 initiative.

Between the S400s and Cyprus drilling this month alone, Turkey’s drift from the West now begs the once hyperbolic refrain of, “Who lost Turkey?” According to the Economist its the EU where Turkey is a natural priority and also a test.

As a father of two little ones couldn’t agree more with the need for more diaper-changing stations. Understand that extra regulation and nightlife venues in particular might feel restricted, but it’s about setting the right example. Changing stations can go anywhere and simply considering creative options including dual use surfaces in other areas outside of bathrooms would make parenting just that much easier. Amazed often at the variation locally and internationally as well.

Looks like Ambassador Hagerty has a great shot in Tennessee, he would be an asset anywhere he goes but not ideal timing with the US-Japan free trade deal on the agenda right after the Upper House elections in Japan next Sunday. The suggestion of replacing Pompeo at State if he runs for senate in Kansas is fascinating as well. In this era domestic politics TRUMP foreign policy I guess...sorry couldn’t help myself :)
