We just need to accept that the social media companies cannot control who posts on their sites and what they post. They cannot safeguard your data and pictures. They just do not have that capability yet, so beware all who post on them. Your data is wide open for abuse. I feel these companies are responsible for the breaches. They should have been able to predict this was going to happen. Anyone developing a product has to think about the many ways that product can be misused. I’m sure all the big intellects among social media developers had to know the dangers posed and they decided to go ahead and launch their products before they could police them. They chose for years to ignore warnings that their sites were being used and abused by bad actors but chose to ignore them because controlling them is an expensive proposition. They did not want to spend the money plain and simple. They felt people were smart enough to police their sites themselves. How wrong they were. As a result, Democracy may be experiencing its death throes. Hate is being spread far and wide. Conspiracy theories are being retweeted and reposted thousands of times. Now fringe beliefs and lunacies are being force fed to us on a minute by minute basis and we keep hearing social media is working on the problem. Data piracy continues and people are being exposed to hate on an ever increasing basis. If what we have now is them working on the problem, I really would hate to see what would result if they continued to fully ignore it. You would think people would quit using them but these sites take advantage of the human innate desire to communicate, reach out to others, and the desire to be liked as well as the desire to be part of something. People not using the sites is simply not going to happen. What can be done? I do not know but someone should sure as Hell have figured it out before Democracies began to fail due to subversive messages being shared by the millions.

I’m a Netflix user as well as a network tv watcher. I find myself watching more and more Netflix. Time is limited and our lives are busy. When we sit down together to watch tv we want quality, a unique story and quality writing and acting. Network tv must have a formula all shows follow and you can recognize it in every show. I think people are a little tired of the formula and that’s why reality tv took off when it was offered . It’s been around awhile now and it’s not as new and surprising as it used to be. It’s no secret that they really aren’t unscripted. People are tiring of it as well as commercial tv’s reliance on a tired formula and rehashing old shows. You have a variety of choices of genre on Netflix and most shows are high quality. I see more and more mainstream actors on Netflix . They seem to have mastered a la carte tv. They seem to have more flexibility than commercial tv probably because they don’t have to please advertisers only subscribers. I think Netflix and similar services will remain kings of at home video entertainment for quite some time.

This article has pin pointed the biggest problem right now in our Democracy and it has helped lead to a massive disconnect between Congress and the American people. How old are the majority of the people attending a Trump rally? I know the clips from the ones I have seen show people behind him mostly older than 50 with a few younger folks mixed in.

The younger generation of voters don’t participate much in elections but if what’s happening now doesn’t wake them up to get out the vote, I don’t know what will. The older generation has engaged in a slash and burn campaign as far as chances to participate in the American Dream goes . They are making sure achieving anywhere near the standard of living millennial parents did is nearly out of reach. They are even trying to change the very values that define American society while claiming that they aren’t. If this isn’t enough to piss millennials off and encourage them to participate nothing will. If millennials want American Democracy to look anything like it did during their parents formative years as far as opportunities go they better vote and push these regressive and repressed oldsters out of government at all levels. I for one pray for it to happen.

Yes. Ironically Trump and Republicans may inadvertently usher in the AI and robot revolution. They will force to happen the very thing they did not want to happen. You can’t kick out huge numbers of illegal immigrants and make legal immigrants scared to apply for jobs or benefits and expect to fill all the lower level jobs that were filled before. The people to fill them aren’t there. Americans in lower level jobs already are being given other positions within companies and industries and they will no longer have any company loyalty but that was already a problem. Now, however, a person can jump from company to company job to job looking for the pay and benefits they want. Trump and Republicans may also get companies to offer insurance as an incentive to keep employees. We can only hope these good consequences come from a President who has proven to be such a horrible person.

I have a feeling though, corporate America is not going to be so happy with what’s happening and Trump can’t buy them off with more tax cuts. He did make the ones he gave somewhat permanent but that may not be enough to buy corporate loyalty. They may soon be pushing to have another President occupy the White House. One that will welcome cheap labor back into the country and take the fear that keeps a good portion of the unskilled labor force from applying where needed. This may usher in a Democratic President in 2020. The way things are going who the Hell knows!

This raise by Amazon may signal the passage of a minimum wage increase in the U.S is around the corner. One thing workers can be certain of is that there will be a corresponding increase in cost of goods and services offered by companies to make up possible profit loss. Successful corporations are not in the habit of giving money to workers at the cost of their profit shares. Increased wages have to be offset by cuts in staff and increased automation, increased prices on most commonly sold items, or cuts in costly benefits packages offered to full time employees. Profit is not sacrificed for worker satisfaction or even customer satisfaction in most cases unless something has gone very wrong.

The sad thing is while the rest of us have to pay our taxes and obey the law, the Trump family felt they were privileged enough and rich enough not to have to. People should realize by now that everything Trump says he is is made up by himself and PR firms. As President he creates chaos and division. He creates problem after problem then comes back later and tries to fix the problems he created. When he’s successful he seeks praise from the world on what a wonderful problem solver and leader he is. It’s all engineered by him and willful aides to make himself look good. Sadly, though, I bet Trump himself could gun down a kindergartner on camera and his followers would love him more for it because he would come out with some convoluted conspiracy theory to explain why the child had to go. FOX News would then repeat it as would White House communications staff and it would trickle down to the public through social media. Before you know it, he would be a hero in the eyes of Trump fans because he had good reason to do it. Trump is and has been running a massive PR campaign to build a false persona. This persona along with his willingness to work with absolutely anyone who praises and pays him won him the Presidency, but it is also going to lead to his downfall because his every action and decision loudly screams I have done unlawful things and I’m a conceited, selfish rich guy who cares little for his fellow humans and cares even less about American freedoms and traditions. If Democrats are smart, they will do any and everything to remove him from office because this guy could con the devil into doing what he wants him to do.

Sorry, letting my irritation come out in my writing. We are living now in the era of Trump and it will go down in history as a time Democracy was endangered by American’s willingness to believe what people on tv say and their willingness to believe propaganda because it fits most closely to their world view. They believe a guy who starred in one of the most unreal reality shows on tv. I am so ready not to have to worry about what insane thing our President will do to embarrass America on the world stage. Getting up daily in Trump country is exhausting, stressful, often fruitless, and constantly disappointing. Please folks go vote and let’s put an end to this self enriching farce Trump calls his Presidency. Vote! Vote! Vote!

This anti- Vaxxer movement that seems to be becoming the latest fad to be adopted by young parents in the middle and upper class puzzles me. These young parents have had a good education and should be able understand how vaccines work but the word that a trend setter is anti-vax starts many on the road to willful ignorance and putting everyone’s kids in danger. The government has made wearing seatbelts mandatory or you get ticketed. Why is it such government over reach to pass vaccination laws for the safety of society at large? If kids aren’t vaccinated, public school attendance should be out. Other parents have no idea their kids are playing with children who are carriers of childhood diseases that can be controlled. These parents aren’t informed at the time of interacting with the unvaccinated so they aren’t given a choice of whether to accept the risk or not. Many children’s play dates and parties are attended by multiple age groups as are many school and public play areas. It’s selfish of these parents to decide they don’t need to conform to societal rules and everyone else will just have to deal with it. These vaccines have been used for so long their track records are well proven and the link between vaccines and autism has not been clearly established. The ingredient mercury has been removed. The idea that vaccines caused autism came out of research that was faked by a doctor whose research was poorly performed and did not follow acceptable research parameters and his license was later removed. The internet and social media has kept this idea alive. With seat belts we had “click it or ticket”. With vaccines, the government needs to take a hard line for safety and maybe push a law that goes something like “stick it or ticket”.

Did anyone notice that the word Trump could be used instead of Chinese trade practices in the third paragraph and the statement would still be true? President Trump’s trade practices “plainly constitute a grave threat to the long-term health and prosperity of the United States economy,” Why can no one get him to understand that the American people are paying for these tariffs. He likes to brag about how much his tax cuts helped the middle and working class but if they did, he just cancelled out any benefit they offered by forcing Americans to pay more for Chinese goods. He just ensured that artificial inflation created and applied by his tariffs to the American pocketbook hits us all just in time for Holiday shopping. Happy holidays Mr. President.
