I believe that mass media has been the only sure way for Americans across the country to obtain info since it’s inception. With the birth of the Internet and soon after w smart phone technology, it is possible to be bombarded 24 hours a day w varying and often ‘seasoned up’ news from viscously competing news companies leaning to either the left or the right. My guess would be that this level of racism has always existed in our society, but wasn’t made as popular day to day due to lack of reporting and access to news being limited to TV and radio. A double edged sword really, this can definitely increase awareness and lead to quicker response and coordination to battle such appalling and oppressive behavior, but if not properly managed or handled, this overwhelming flood of data, often incomplete and not completely accurate can increase anger and paranoia across the nation leading to stronger division and even violence. Quite the Conundrum.
