This story reminds me of the hiring process in the workforce and attempts to bring diversity and “fairness”. In order to combat unconscious bias during the search results, one possibility was hiding the picture and name until after the recruiter reaches out. Perhaps a similar anonymization can be followed; or at least during the initial vetting process.

Food as a perk doesn’t just save companies time, it saves employees’ time as well. Not everyone wants to spend an hr a day to buy groceries, prep food, eat, and clean. This is one of those win-win situations that work for both parties.
The system is tested every three years so it’s not that big a deal for me. It’s also meant for communication during extreme situations (such as when internet is inaccessible). Better safe than sorry
