I now ask all of my friends and relatives who want to give me something for Christmas to make a donation to food for the poor, my favorite charity. Currently, $80 gives a kid in Haiti food for a year and water for life. They don't just give stuff away, but build infrastructure to prevent such hardships in the future. Here in the Western Hemisphere, we are so blessed with abundance that we don't see poverty the same way as the rest of the world.

There is something inherent in The Human Condition that needs to be filled. For most of Western Civilization that was fulfilled by religion and family. As we've become a progressively more secular society that need must be filled buy something else. Alcohol, drugs, addiction to pornography and other forms of self-abuse are more and more common. Promotion of nuclear family relationships and a fundamental acknowledgement of this hole in the human heart is necessary in order to achieve any long-term, widespread solution. Emotional lethargy and ennui require something to cling to. Most people need something greater than themselves to follow, and the evidence of this is all around us. Musicians, politicians, sports teams, political arguments comma Etc are all examples of this. I would lay long odds that a disproportionate percentage of those who died before their time had nothing else to cling to, at least as they saw it. My own experience in community work causes me to interact with such wretches on a daily basis. They are all lost souls trying to be found. Ironically, I am not a religious person and would feel hypocritical proselytizing, so I direct them toward professional counseling. What else can we do?

  • During the 2016 campaign, I was firmly in the anti-hillary camp. As I had said on numerous occasions, I would have voted for a lawn chair rather than another Clinton. During the 2016 campaign, I was firmly in the anti-hillary camp. As I had said on numerous occasions, I would have voted for a lawn chair rather than another Clinton. This led to what was, at the time, a shocking degree of negativity at my family holiday gathering. For the first time in my adult life, people who profess to love me actually shunned me in public. All pleas for intelligent conversation went unheeded, and every attempt to change the subject failed. Bear in mind that I didn't even bring politics up until I was directly asked. I bring up this anecdotal and very personal experience specifically in light of the mindset evidenced in this article and more fully expressed in the extraordinary really biased article recently published in the New York Times. Be careful what you bring up at family gatherings. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

I find myself in a very weird space. In this instance, I am a Trump Defender and apologist. When I step back and look at the behavior of the White House Press Corps and compare that behavior to the way they acted toward his predecessor, I find his antagonism understandable. Jim Acosta as a bloviating non reporter is one thing, but the message from April Ryan seemed to be " I want to write that you are a racist, why won't you admit that to me now and make my job easier?" How on Earth is such behaviour acceptable? An antagonistic relationship between the White House Press Corps and any Administration is a good thing. That being said, compare the fawning that has gone on in the past and compare that to the single message of attack philosophy that exists in today's environment.

  • In light of the more alarming examples of dissent of late, most recently the rise of antifa harrasment of people they do not like, I find this particular protest soothing and amusing, while it succeeds in making snoop's point. I wish this was more common rather than the exception. Mind you, I do not partake at all and never have, but I see his point. And at least he's not trying to kick down anyone's door.

  • Well certainly not my area of expertise, considering the traditional ethnic hatred between these two cultures, compounded by some of the most horrific war crimes in the history of the modern world, I find this most encouraging. Presuming that the study is correct, I would take this as a positive sign.

As a result of an increase in the Republican majority in the Senate, it is clear that the Trump Administration is preparing for possible legal combat against the house, if necessary. Wild sessions has been on the hot seat for about a year, gaining several seats in the Senate now gives President Trump greater Leverage when it comes to litigating investigations from his administration against the house and vice versa. I suppose that in his own way, President Trump is looking for a wartime consigliere. To me the most interesting element of this whole process has been a removal and replacement of virtually every component of the president's original staff. Some of those are lost through attrition, of course, but the removal of more incendiary components, in favor of better professionals has been an interesting sight to see.

Clearly, this is a problem that needs to be resolved from the accumulation of debt perspective, rather than the elimination of debt after the fact. I understand that doctor Jordan B Peterson is working with a Consortium of other high-achieving academics to achieve a true solution to this problem. I also understand that the Khan Academy in New York is doing something similar. As far as I am able to ascertain, the goal is to get student tuition and total expenses down by at the minimum an order of magnitude. This goal is to be attained by strictly regimented online classes, and using the TA to monitor the greatly enlarged group of students who are listening to the professor at hand.

Unfortunately, the shooting up of synagogues and bomb threats to same is nothing new. In western civilization we have seen anti-semitic acts of violence many, many times. Presumably, the shooter will turn out to be the typical anti-jewish Nut Job. On the bright side, at least the administration is no longer suffering from the mistakes of the neophyte when it comes to addressing such tragedies. The president came out and strongly condemned such actions, as is appropriate for his position. This is particularly bad timing for the current Administration, in light of the rather spectacular success of yesterday's meeting with the young black Leadership Summit Group. Such an horrific event will completely overshadow any positive progress in race relations as perceived by the General Public as well it should. Tragedy and violence always supersedes happiness and cooperation in terms of media coverage.

Spoken like someone who wants to be in a second rate country. While there is Merit in the psychological aspects of overwork possibly being unhealthy, to promote a culture of laissez-faire, european-style laziness is itself crazy. Countries with higher energy levels will overtake us. Read William Gibbons "the rise and fall of the Roman Empire." A culture that promotes laziness is inevitably out stripped and overtaken buy a culture that has a fanatical work ethic.
