While reading this article, I found it interesting how Elon Musk has become synonymous with the Tesla brand. There were many references to the fact that although Tesla has struggled in the past, completely severing ties with the somewhat erratic Musk would be catastrophic to the company. That being said, I think that the article did not emphasize how the SEC required Musk to stand down from the position for three years. Based upon this point, I wonder if Denholm is merely acting as a seat warmer for Musk or if her position is permanent.

Overall, I found this article compelling and agree that social media platforms are dangerous and a threat to democracy. That being said, I wish Kates harped on the fact that not only was Facebook instrumental in ushering in authoritarian regimes in both England and America, but it has also played a huge part in inciting a wide scale genocide of the Rohingya people of Myanmar. In this country, the Myanmar military personnel published false stories about the Muslim Rohingya on the social media platform. Subsequently, the government has successfully used the network as a means and justification of ethnic cleansing that is still occurring to this this day. Not only is the use of this network for inciting negative political change appalling, but Facebook has also played a part in damaging the newspaper industry by starving these companies of advertisement revenues. In the United States, steps are being taken to pass a bill called the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act that would limit the power of this online platform and restore greater monetary power to small newspaper companies. In my opinion, the US and other countries must act quickly to limit the scope and influencing power of this dangerous social networking platform.
