  • While I agree with Denholm that the model targeted at us to buy shoes cannot be the same one used to engage with people and voices during an election, I think it will be extremely difficult to pass a law that will provide oversight to social media companies. It’s a fine line - we want there to be oversight

While I agree with Denholm that the model targeted at us to buy shoes cannot be the same one used to engage with people and voices during an election, I think it will be extremely difficult to pass a law that will provide oversight to social media companies. It’s a fine line - we want there to be oversight so as not to disseminate false information regarding elections and candidates, but the second we govern it, it falls into the idea of media censorship. As a nation that provides itself on free speech, what do we censor? Is censoring Facebook the right answer or will trolls still find a way to hack into peoples accounts and spread fake news? I’m not sure what the right answer is. But I don’t think Zuckerberg will do anything to censor Facebook, but something within the organization needs to change in order to keep people’s personal data safe. I’ll be interested to see if Zuckerberg changes anything with Facebook; perhaps if he does, other social media platforms will follow suit.

  • I’m glad to see that a woman was appointed as chairman because it provides some much needed diversity to Tesla’s board. I think Ms. Denholm is exactly what Tesla needs in order for it to turn around - someone who is “smart, practical, and a good listener.” I’m interested to see how her and Mr. Musk work

I’m glad to see that a woman was appointed as chairman because it provides some much needed diversity to Tesla’s board. I think Ms. Denholm is exactly what Tesla needs in order for it to turn around - someone who is “smart, practical, and a good listener.” I’m interested to see how her and Mr. Musk work together, but I ultimately think it was a great decision because she counterbalances his weaknesses. Clearly, she is bright and she was able to restructure Juniper and have it double it’s profit, so I would expect to see something similar in Tesla. Her biggest challenge will be dividing responsibilities with Mr. Musk and reigning him in, but I believe her practical capabilities combined with his vision with help Tesla grow and be more sustainable.
