David Koch's death is most definitely both tragic for his family and a great benefit for America. So will Charles's be. I see in them the final scene in Trading Places, where one brother suffers a heart attack right on the trading floor, whereupon his brother says "F__k him" and continues to push his junk stock while facing certain ruin.

I too hate the moniker "the missing link" because it implies the grossly and ultimately oversimplistic view that only one is ever to be found. Actually most who use the moniker are convinced it will never be found, because it doesn't exist, and therefore it follows that a supreme being does exist, who created us humans, every other animal, every vegetable and mineral, literally every particle of mass and every erg of energy. Of course the sane, intelligent and unwashed brains among us realize these are violations of the two conservation laws, that Earth's age is in the billions, not the thousands, that Chinese culture, as one example, has existed for longer than Earth's age according to the religious. But no matter: despite finds like dinosaurs, fossils even older, Lucy and this new skull the religious blindly and blissfully persist...

See point #2 below: I oppose the death penalty across the board, but not because it's cruel or unusual, not because it's playing God or violating a Commandment, and not because it's incivil or morally wrong. Yes, it is all those and more, but my main reason is, it's too damn good!

These people have taken from society, so they should give back. And keep giving back. For the duration of a long, healthy life and sentence not just sitting there, or lifting weights, or learning to fight, or managing a gang or crime syndicate, but instead doing the following:

1. Work. And I mean WORK. The dirty jobs we all need but no one wants. Digging ditches. Hauling garbage and separating out recyclables. Washing dishes, pots and pans. Cleaning bathrooms. Especially these white racists and high-finance crooks, they should become society's slaves.

2. Mandatorily and regularly donating blood. Plus tissue and other fluids. Plus half their liver, since it grows back. Plus one eye, one lung, one kidney. And everything when they die.

3. Mandatorily subjecting themselves to experiments on the latest medicines and surgeries. This would completely bypass TEN YEARS of animal testing. For example, Charles Manson in fact had cancer. Imagine if we had tried a bunch of medicines or treatments on him? And if they failed, we learn from it, and who cares? It's Charles Frickin' Manson!

And finally, for the duration of their sentences, any and all last wills and testaments should be null and void; their every penny should go to their victims or the state should they die in prison.

Now, imagine if all this were law how few people would go or go back to jail!?
