  • Fascism is a one way street. Expect both black and white nationalism to grow exponentially in their own stove pipes, financed by increasingly foreign and undetectable flows of money. Fascism is a one way street. Expect both black and white nationalism to grow exponentially in their own stove pipes, financed by increasingly foreign and undetectable flows of money. Hell, you might have just have given all these banned groups a common enemy! The great value of Democracy is that we don't aspire to be a 'house divided'. We are not the Balkans. We are not Lebanon or the whole of the Mid East. *We are not Europe*. Sure "hate speech" is ugly. But the overriding legal and spiritual principle of our country is the first amendment. Without it, most Americans are just groups of brooding, blood thirsty savages waiting to overthrow their own country. Here it is:"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." We have this law so we don't kill one another.

  • OK. But this all stops when you start talking about mortgage payments, tuition payments, getting your young ones to school and back at different times not to mention various locations for each child @ violin, swimming, soccer, etc. I won't even mention the two week vacation with kids to grandma's house..

But this all stops when you start talking about mortgage payments, tuition payments, getting your young ones to school and back at different times not to mention various locations for each child @ violin, swimming, soccer, etc. I won't even mention the two week vacation with kids to grandma's house... Yeah, maybe if you live in Copenhagen your family won't need to own the car, house, ride around mower...here in America articles like this are glorifying the fact that we have locked entire generations out of being parents because they can no longer afford it......

  • Personally, I think the polarized discussions about diversity, male and Asian dominance in engineering may reflect points of view and real truths...but still may not be very helpful in the end. An enlightened society is by definition a tolerant, pluralistic, diverse society that integrates the workforce

Personally, I think the polarized discussions about diversity, male and Asian dominance in engineering may reflect points of view and real truths...but still may not be very helpful in the end. An enlightened society is by definition a tolerant, pluralistic, diverse society that integrates the workforce. Corporations should reward not only achievement and talent, but diversity, cooperation, teamwork. No, we can't ask them to be paragons of social organization in a brutal, cutthroat capitalist world. But the high profit margins and low taxes of Microsoft (and others headquarteted in a state like WA that has no standard corporate income tax), should leave them plenty room to pursue beneficent, magnaminous diversity in hiring and promotion. Being an "old timer" now.... In discussions like this, I always ask myself, "What would Andy Grove do?" The answer: Do what is fair and just. Act decisively, and with intensity but with a very open mind to your own bias and shortcomings.

  • The NYT has laced this article with interesting opinions. But for many, NYT's sentiments really miss the point. The NYT has laced this article with interesting opinions. But for many, NYT's sentiments really miss the point. Parts of the heartland are depopulating because their citizens are moving to hot job markets on the West Coast where homelessness, gentrification, and real estate appreciation are pushing more into dense housing and crowded streets. San Francisco and Seattle are indeed 'full', with many living in tents! The people in the heartland want none of that. This article misses the point of Trump's appeal: In an unregulated, oligarchic society of winners or losers, the citizenry want sane, safe, affordable lives for themselves and their children. We are not providing for such; Trump is giving us our scapegoats.

  • Today's brilliant insight is: "Kids who studied the most learned the most..."

  • Well...What did you expect? Children intuit exactly what kind of world we have developed for them: high tech, polluted, unequal, chaotic and overlaid with babbling adults all of whom stress education but who themselves aren't educated enough to solve the substantial problems and divisions of this world

Well...What did you expect? Children intuit exactly what kind of world we have developed for them: high tech, polluted, unequal, chaotic and overlaid with babbling adults all of whom stress education but who themselves aren't educated enough to solve the substantial problems and divisions of this world. Our kids love us. They have been studying us carefully. They are hoping to out think and outperform the bumbling stumble John's and Jill's their parents have become in middle age. God bless them.

  • I don't believe a single word of this. Increasing rates of neurological and brain degenerative disease are tearing through our populations. High tech job centers are built on young Asian or Indian immigrants. Men in their fifties in America have extraordinary high suicide rates; the ones that aren"t

I don't believe a single word of this. Increasing rates of neurological and brain degenerative disease are tearing through our populations. High tech job centers are built on young Asian or Indian immigrants. Men in their fifties in America have extraordinary high suicide rates; the ones that aren"t living on the streets. Go ahead and wander around the construction sites in your city and look for carpenters and steel workers older than 40! You can cobble statistics to show anything. This article doesn't impress me...

  • What if the whole point is to hurt us? A joint plan from both sides to throw families into homelessness, bankruptcy, pain... To punish us for surviving in a wretched country where both parties fear the people and need us either to hate one another or die.
