Ikea has long used horse hair in its high-end mattresses, but at least those were labeled. Meatballs made in Sweden by Ikea which supposedly contained only pork and beef turn out to contain horse meat, say Czech authorities. Meatballs sold at Ikea stores throughout the world are also made in Sweden, but it’s unknown whether countries other than the Czech Republic have been affected.

Given the chain’s international reach, this might be the point at which Europe’s horse meat scandal becomes global. IKEA has yet to comment publicly.
